Rarest car you've seen on the road lately?

That's deep pocket status right there. What's the price tag on one of those? It's considerably more than a Ferrari if I recall.

Think they are real close to 400K all said and done when new

1991 (I think) Ferrari F-40. One of the team owners drove it to the shop a few weeks ago...he also owns a classic car restoration business...here http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/company/staff . He's a pretty cool guy and a major gear head, you wouldnt think he was a mega rich dude by talking to him.

edit: here it is... http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/sales/inventory/active#!/1991-Ferrari-F40/132162

Must be nice to be able to just head over there and say "Hey, I wanna take this out today, where are the Keys? I own it so why not?"

DING! DING! DING!!!! We have a winner!

It was an amazing site to see and I will probably never get the chance again. He knew I always like Tuckers and called me up and said come check this out. My Jaw Dropped

Yeah, that's crazy rare. IIRC, they only made 40 something Tuckers to begin with, and you know many got scrapped during the time when they were old enough to need work but nobody knew how to work on them, yet before they were thought of as collectible. If that is the only 'Vert ever built or even the only 'Vert left, that's gotta be just huge. Looks like it's very nicely done too.... I bet it's a 7 figure car all day long.

Nice, sounds like the owner likes to drive it. Can you give some insight of the connection with the earthquake??

I doubt he'd like that title, I guess the quakes made him realise we ain't gonna be around forever no point in being the richest man in the cemetery might as well buy that dream car.

Two years of aftershocks will do that. He had an international freight company.

The rarely seen "Truck-stang" spotting South of Tampa on I75 several years back.

Seriously though, I've seen 2 SQs locally in 6 years, so that still takes it over the Lambos & such down in Naples.

The convertible was never official. All of the "official" cars are hardtop. The story behind the convertible Tucker is an interesting one. Some call foul and others say it should count.

I know it was never official but it should be. Still an amazing site and something I will never forget.

  • 1 month later...

Lamborghini Countach.

I didn't post this earlier because I thought it was a fake.... who in rural Indiana would have a Lamborghini Countach? Well, the answer is my family Doctor! I had an appointment this week and saw it in his parking spot (in winter he drives a truck), and asked him about it. 1989 25th anniversary addition. The "anniversary" addition started production in 1988 and lasted until 1990... how can you have a three year production run on an anniversary addition? Anyway, 4 valve heads, electronic fuel injection around 455 HP...

Later,

Keith

You sure do tow a lot of broke-down expensive vehicles.

Yesterday, while driving from KY back to NC, I saw a first gen Dodge Viper and a Plymouth Prowler at the same rest stop off I-75. The Viper was red and the Prowler was yellow. I guess it was "90s Chrysler Excess Day" at the KY/TN state line.

My neighborhood is a pretty ordinary ranch home neighborhood with working class and middle class folks. While jogging, I have seen a Subaru Justy, a four door Ford Torino from the early 70s, a 60s Alfa GTV under a cover, a Yugo under a cover, a 70s era Porsche 911, some street rod trucks in progress, a Mitsubishi Montero, a Mercury Marauder, and then there's my two Chrysler Conquests, which occasionally pull people off the street and up to my porch to ask about them. I guess the Justy or the Yugo win the rarity award.

As for Conquests on the road, I have passed two on the road here in Charlotte and know of several others. I saw one driving in Hendersonville, NC and one driving near Hampton Roads in April. I always get a tingle when I see a driving Starquest!

Clutch on the Ferrari went out, happens often with those. The Aston had nothing wrong. Owner gets it detailed with one if account shops, they do only high end super cars. Those people will pay big bucks to transport a car from point a to b for service, detatailing etc.

I pick up cars out of Malibu that are simply going in for an oil change. There's cars I won't even touch, like the new Saleens, McClaren's some of the Lambo's. I need a newer generation tow truck with air suspension and a drop down bed, they almost nearly flat on the ground, no ground clearance issues.

As it is, I gotta work to load those super cars.
