bobehud
I was years ago a grey market BMW fan, loved my euro Bimmers. My favorite thing to do was hunt mustang i figure i am going to need at least 350-400 hp to do that. The starion is bing dropped at my shop tomorrow so i can go over it. Anyone else on here tired of the guys that drive the stangs, they are getting to be annoying. My grey market bimmer never lost to a stang on a hi-way roll.Any ideas or what i need to get where i want to go,ThanksBob

Jdubya
You must have never ran across a Terminator or GT500. It would take a lot to beat one of those.

tehzack
(stock) 99-04 GT's run mid low 14's in the quarter, maybe a 13.9 with jesus behind the wheel.(stock) 05+ run mid low 13's. You're probably gonna get served by anything with a DOHC 4.6/5.4 and a blower. Start working on your whip, go to the dragstrip and get some timeslips. Then you know what to shoot for. bobehud
Ok now im confused, the starions run 14 sec and 13 sec quarter miles...or was the the stang i know about them.Im a gear head the only reason the Bimmer was a monster was because it was euro had 440 hp 4.2 ltr and i didnt have any sense when i was younger...lol
Taz
Get the car running 100% right first and then do A LOT of reading here to figure out what all can be done.... until then.... go beat up on the V6 Autos
dstar88
if you get that car you're looking at, and theres nothing wrong with it. You will already have a really good platform to work from. It already had the upgraded turbo, the maf-t, upgraded i/c and piping, rebuilt engine, etc., etc. depending on what rout you take with it (keeping it at tbi, or switching to mpi with a better computer system), that car should be able to put down some good numbers. Who knows, it might already be putting down some pretty good numbers with that set up and may give quite a few stangs a run for their money. BrazilBoy
These cars have the best torque curve I have ever seen out of a 4 cylinder...Most guys running 400hp are also running 400 tq..Unlike hondas that can be 400hp and 150tq... As far as mustangs go thier is only a hand full that can beat our cars..Mine eats GT's all day, shelby and rousch's are a little tougher... bobehud
Yep,grey market they are true Euro cars no cats,no power windows or door locks,no AC..most came into the US thru central America or were shipped in.Until the late 80's early 90's you could find these cars and get a waiver. They slammed the lid on that.Imagine an inline 4.2ltr six with a 6 speed and in a small e36 or e34 chassis makeing over 400hp..they were monsters I had to sell mine when i got a 137 in a 55..wasnt even racing just got distracted listening to ACDC and got busted.Only my lily white record (other than speeding tickets) kept my butt out of jail that day.The wife came unglued when the lawyer told us what it was going to cost to keep my license. So i have been a jeep guy forever so i got serious about getting muddy and forgot about going fast. I drove an M5 the other day and got the urge again.

jaybrew
Mustangs are slow... There is no secret to going fast... add power and lose weight. A 300hp quest is a fast car.
bobehud
Look no offense to you Stang guys i cant get enough of blower whine from a cobra, but seriously i like a challenge if you have a credit card,a summit catalog, and two hands you can make a Stang fast. Not a lot of talent needed, just money.I worked in a speed shop here in St.louis when i was younger and always raced Pontiac, real Pontiac with REAL PONTIAC motors..lol..always got razed,at first, then i got as fast as most Chevy and i became Pontiac Bob.Was it as cheap as a Chevy SB build nope, was it as easy nope.....but when i won a fair race with a guy who just bolted on the part of the week compared to me who had to really run things down..it was great. So thats what i plan to do with this Starion, find out all i can before i start cranking it up,but when i do it will be right.Compared to a Stang which buys two parts from column A and one from column B...no offense

I came across 3 Mustangs on my 5 minute drive to work today. Whenever I see someone who has a fast car but doesn't know much about how they work...I'm like "you just don't get it do you?". Anyone can buy something fast, I feel the respect and satisfaction comes from building your car, not buying it. That is my main gripe about Mustangs because they have the most people who have no idea about cars but yet think they are fast as hell. And to some extent they are fast but....they just don't get it
BOHO
None taken...look at my sig pic...i've spent more time and money on the starion than i ever will on the stang.....What are your plans for the g54? mpi big turbo? what? BOHO
I understand why people don't like mustangs...they are everywhere...and for the most part...owners act like srt-4 owners....they just think they are the badest thing on the road....which is why most peole want to go "mustang hunting" ....your not beating the car...your beating the ego of the owner...I GET IT.....BUT.......for the money....dollar for dollar....my cobra is the best car I've ever had....It's seen 12.60's in the 1/4 starts up and drives everyday...ice cold a/c and for the most part i don't have to worry about it. If I had to get rid of something it would be the cobra...simply because I love the starion too much...it doesn't do anything for me i just can't see it go...... Anyways the point is......there is nothing wrong with a strong mustang...its a great car and they can be fast and reliable.......take it as you will...I would put it up against 9/10 starions on here......I hope that I can get mine to beat it eventually but at this point I just don't know. Jdubya
I'm not a Mustang guy by any means, but I miss my Terminator. It would take a LOT of money in my Conquest to come close to the performance it had. I was putting down a little over 600WHP on 93 pump gas and it was trapping in the high 120's in the 1/4 mile. Somehow I fit this: http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s46/jarod_whitaker/Cobra/cobraprecis2.jpg In here: http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s46/jarod_whitaker/Cobra/MiniCobra.jpg
craig87
Eh its all the same after A difficult conquest build its nice to be able to order parts for you car out of the box. A mild quest will take most 5.0 off the roll but off the line the torque isn't there.... Well there is that little yellow quest the highly boosted used to own that that we put together that I only saw lose to one mustang (damn 9 sec 5.0).I guess i've gotten lazy because Id rather build my stang then go any farther then my quest is right now. I've already built and driven a bad a** magna car the 2jz swap car and mine is as far as i care to go throttle body.

Iv raced lots of mustangs and other american muscle and iv never had any probiblim betting them, and im mostly stock. the starion is like 3000 lbs to there 5000 lbs V8 and so long as u know how to drive ur car it shouldnt be much truble (and the V8 is the only real compation). the V6 just dosnt have the take off needed to take the turbo. have fun giving those 5.0s hell. JustPaus_88TSi
5000lbs? LOL You do know that the hatch GT 5.0's are about 150lbs heavier than a SQ, right? Or that the notch 5.0's are lighter than SQ's? 87-93 Fox bodies: 2,754-3,350lbs94-98: 3,055-3,565lbs
