  1. Thanks guys, this is a great forum. My deal went sideways.Car wasn't even close to being worth 6K and i had to walk away. Was not even close to being a daily driver.tires, paint was thick and god awful, exh hung down 6 ins from the body channel, etc, etc.I was bummed. Now im looking.
  2. I had a car lined up...but it was more of a project than i wanted and way way way overpriced even by the account of the people on this forum who at one time owned it. I was BUMMED big time.Listen all this Jeep need is gas..and maybe some snow a little mud...tried to figure out how to post pics...couldn't.. I have pics and a list of goodies. Help a guy out who was really let down... email is bobdrozen@aol.com
  3. Im sorry i fell asleep did i miss something..???
  4. See i like to hear that,i am getting this because you dont see one at every dang stoplight
  5. Look no offense to you Stang guys i cant get enough of blower whine from a cobra, but seriously i like a challenge if you have a credit card,a summit catalog, and two hands you can make a Stang fast. Not a lot of talent needed, just money.I worked in a speed shop here in St.louis when i was younger and always raced Pontiac, real Pontiac with REAL PONTIAC motors..lol..always got razed,at first, then i got as fast as most Chevy and i became Pontiac Bob.Was it as cheap as a Chevy SB build nope, was it as easy nope.....but when i won a fair race with a guy who just bolted on the part of the week compared to me who had to really run things down..it was great. So thats what i plan to do with this Starion, find out all i can before i start cranking it up,but when i do it will be right.Compared to a Stang which buys two parts from column A and one from column B...no offense
  6. So im trying to see if any other braves souls do it.I was told i couldnt make my big Jeep a DD and they were wrong!!!!! LOL...had a kid thats works in my shop tell me they are too 'Twitchy' to be reliable. Just curious.
  7. well it has both the GM MAF sensor and the 89 ecu..
  8. I have always used Castrol Syn-Tech in anything im going to drive hard its a 5w50 only oil with that range when i had down a cple of oil changes in the bimmer i noticed the car would pick up RPM's quicker.
  9. UM guys im new to this forum im almost 50 and have driven just about everything,i love cars, speed, twisting up the front fenders when you launch hard.Mustangs are the 57 Chevy of the 80's for small coin you can do 13's all day.But they are a belly button car everyone has one,but that's not always a bad thing i have helped several friends build wicked fast stangs, but my buddy's squeezed Integ GSR that ran high 11's on a 50 shot was my great too.It bothers me to see this much anger over a common hobby. So don't scare the new guy..lol..First turbo 4 i have ever owned,im an old dog learning new tricks appreciate you sport and admire those who chose a different path to get to the same place.
  10. well guys i will have it at my shop in the am and i have built some wild engines in my day offset grind an olds 455 crank buy .125 use buick 455 rod with custom pistons to get the deck height right.Bushings in the piston pin and you have a 540ci olds.I will know if the guys pulling my chain. First thing first--i havent seen one of these cars in years and i like the look some much more than a 240sx and they are lighter than a Supra. I turned down a nice 87 Vette to get this, why well Vette guys have Vette t-shirts,key chains, watchs, under wear, you get the idea. When i drove Bimmers i never really fit in with that crowd either,id get the oddest look when i asked them what it ran in the quarter,or where to you go to top end it..?
  11. Yep,grey market they are true Euro cars no cats,no power windows or door locks,no AC..most came into the US thru central America or were shipped in.Until the late 80's early 90's you could find these cars and get a waiver. They slammed the lid on that.Imagine an inline 4.2ltr six with a 6 speed and in a small e36 or e34 chassis makeing over 400hp..they were monsters I had to sell mine when i got a 137 in a 55..wasnt even racing just got distracted listening to ACDC and got busted.Only my lily white record (other than speeding tickets) kept my butt out of jail that day.The wife came unglued when the lawyer told us what it was going to cost to keep my license. So i have been a jeep guy forever so i got serious about getting muddy and forgot about going fast. I drove an M5 the other day and got the urge again.
  12. Ok now im confused, the starions run 14 sec and 13 sec quarter miles...or was the the stang i know about them.Im a gear head the only reason the Bimmer was a monster was because it was euro had 440 hp 4.2 ltr and i didnt have any sense when i was younger...lol
  13. No....no way huh damn the luck..i know i wont beat them all just want make the stock semi stock stangs get a good look at my tail lights
  14. also it has a GM MAS again, the reason..?Im in the industry i run shops and i am about to take a plung on highly modded 87 and am just curious as to the purpose of the ecu upgrade,i am fairly i understand the whole GM MAS issue. Thanks Bob
  15. As soon as i get a good look at it,check compression, look up stock bore on the 2.6 ltr what a .040 over bore would give me i should be able to figure out how he came up with the engine size.I hope he understands im a hella nice guy-but when it comes to cars and money i dont play and im very good at what i do. If it is what he says it is and it is still good and tight with no rust i can fix how the dash looks in a few minutes,if i just knew more about rice rockets (no offense)..but a rust free car means a great deal to me as body work is one talent i do not have. I was reading some of the times you guys posted in the stickys alot of 15 sec and 14 sec 1/4 mile times im looking for mid 12s am im expecting to much out of this type of car..?
  16. I was years ago a grey market BMW fan, loved my euro Bimmers. My favorite thing to do was hunt mustang i figure i am going to need at least 350-400 hp to do that. The starion is bing dropped at my shop tomorrow so i can go over it. Anyone else on here tired of the guys that drive the stangs, they are getting to be annoying. My grey market bimmer never lost to a stang on a hi-way roll.Any ideas or what i need to get where i want to go, Thanks Bob
  17. Okay just update the car will at my shop in the Am before i open putting the keys in the night drop box told me to ck it out as much as i needed. Its a southern car,no rust anywhere according to the owner, but we shall see in the Am.He knows im in the industry and has no issue leaving it with me for a day so that's always a good sign.
  18. i oh the add is gone?..?And on the piston thing if done right they are just as stout as forged used to bore blocks, turn cranks, etc, etc. The trick to those pistons is a super tight wall to piston clearance.Forged are as much as 1.2-2.0...the high silicon piston does not grow when hot as the forge do soo you run like .0015-.0017..very tight .Torque plate bore to within .0001 then hone the cylinder to open them up.I have seen a VW run 24psi with the lower end done right. If you leave the clearance for a forged piston the other pistons will crack in no time.I was machining blocks when years ago these came out-Keith Black helped make them famous.
  19. Im back it does have a water to air intercooler the 10K is for work on the entire car,my mistake not his.Its got a fresh paint job and he swears no rust he is going to bring it to my shop so i can get it on a rack.I have had a thing for these cars for some time.Oh YES i know what part of the big numbers were he said it displaces 3.2ltrs now has some sort of v8 pistons in it with, the rods haveing the side beams polished and heavy shot peened. Now i built american muscle car engines for a long time and if a car was going to be driven hard we did just that.Does not allow for a fracture line to start.never heard of it in a 4 banger but i guess stress is stress. oh yes thanks for the warm welcome you guys are a mellow bunch
  20. didnt look close but yes you are right something is amiss ,ill be back
  21. yep thats the one and the dash pods look god awful-drivetrain has a ton of work and the invoices for it.Now i know where to ck for rust i can take a look i told him i had to rack it ck it out first. His drivetrain invoices add up to a tad over 10K..I am also running a compression test as well when i get my hands on it in the shop..BEFORE..its mine.Yeah i was going to ask about that steering wheel i have never saw such a thing before. He claims no rust anywhere,or body damage but you get get them on a swing arm and get them in the air its hard to hide stuff then..like i said..that will be done ,BEFORE its my car.
  22. Hi all New to these cars but not 'cars' have ran shops for 25 years and drove one of these new ans was impressed. This car may be coming via a trade i have a Jeep the young man wants badly and he has done a great deal of work on the Starion and im trying to get advice from those who would know if this is a good deal bad deal, etc. Im in St.louis if you go to St.louis Craigslist and type in trade or 87 you cant miss the car.If it was a GTO-or Bimmer i have owned more than a few of those. The fact the car is rear wheel drivis a huge plus to me. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.I of course will be having work done ,done in my shop.Sorry to be so wet behind the ears, you just dont see many of these anymore. Thanks much Bob bobdrozen@aol.com
