creakyjoints
Almost any inline 6 has shown to be reliable. Maybe because there tends to be low stress outputs on them?

SidewaySStarion
AMC-Jeep 4.0 inline 6. I second the jeep 4.0, I've put some seriously hard miles on mine and it still runs like a swiss watch.

polarisman14
I always had good luck with the 2.3/2.5L lima engines from the Ranger/Thunderbird TC/Mustang SVO/Merkur XR4Ti. I've had 2 rangers with that engine each with more than 125k miles that ran like they were new and gave me almost 30mpg.
4WStarion
O/T but did some 80's Rangers have the 4d55 Mitsubishi diesel engine in the US? A customer of mine has a Landcrusier with over a million kms and still going strong with only regular oil changes. 1hz diesel engine.
TexasQuest
I had a 97 Mercury Tracer (Ford Escort) with the 2.0 SOHC CVH motor. That thing was bulletproof. I knew a guy with a 91 Escort 1.9 with over 300,000 miles on it, original drivetrain.
ucw458
I had a 97 Mercury Tracer (Ford Escort) with the 2.0 SOHC CVH motor. That thing was bulletproof. I knew a guy with a 91 Escort 1.9 with over 300,000 miles on it, original drivetrain. They can take alot of punishment but when they let go they do it in a big way. The OEM CVH heads had a habit of dropping the intake valve seat into the cylinder. Not every head did it but it was a very common problem. But parts were relatively cheap which lead to people buying escorts and focuses with blown motors cheap then rebuilding the motor and selling for a nice $1-2k profit. I did that on a focus and made almost $2k profit. But you have to find a dirt cheap machine shop to fix the head, use junkyard and ebay parts and do the work yourself to make the rebuild cost less than $300. This was the last straw that made me junk my wife's 94 escort with 1.9 CVH motor. Could I have found another block and fixed it cheap, yes. But I had already rebuilt the motor twice and I for damn sure wasn't doing it a third time. First time was a hole in the rad. Temp gauge sender is in a heater hose so no coolant equals a melting motor with the gauge saying everything is fine. Second rebuild was a core plug between the block and trans letting go. Stupid steel plug. So when it blew a third time in a bigger way I said F it I'm done. Can you spot the problem?http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Escort/DSCN0007_zps9a90184a.jpg How about now? http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Escort/DSCN0009_zpsd416e218.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Escort/DSCN0014_zpsb46133d6.jpg
LSQuest88
Can't go wrong with an LS motor that has low miles or high mileage that has been well maintained. They will take daily abuse and you can get parts at any auto parts stores snd the prices for them have come way down the last couple of years. Plus it will roast the rear tires and get good gas mileage. Also the jeep inline 6 4.0 is my second choice
