Preludedude
Just got my Conquest running and been installing Autometer gauges, and I want to know what temp yall normally operate at... 180 is in the middle of my Autometer 4337 Elec. Water temp gauge but I know it runs hotter than that at full operating temp... Thanks guys. Mark
ucw458
176 with a stock temp 195 stat. I know it sounds weird but it's verified with 2 sensors. Warm up spikes to 195, stat opens, then temp goes down to 176 and stays there.
Preludedude
I'm not using AC or Heat. So is a thermostat necessary? Could it be left off and just have full flow of water at all times? Would that make water flow too quickly and not cool down as intended? Or would it be good?
speedyquest
Yes its definitely necessary. Without that restriction in coolant while the motor warms up it would take a long time or possibly never get to proper operating temperature. Don't think of the thermostat as a controller of the temp of your car but more like a restriction to allow the car to get to is correct operating temp quickly and correctly. scott87star
As hot as possible, even when I was living in Houston sitting in epic traffic with the A/C blasting.
Bills89quest
I have a digital gauge on mine, and it typically runs between 185-190. I have a 190 thermo in mine.
psu_Crash
Cruising around I see 180-190ish with a 180 t-stat. In traffic or hard driving it's not uncommon to be around 200. I don't get nervous until it gets over 210. Edited May 29, 2015 by psu_Crash
jjohnson
When i got my car running it ran cold all the time, maby registered 1/8 on the stock guage. I buoght a 190 deg t stat and went to install it and found the po didnt have one in ther at all wich was why it had no cabin heat, i had problems getting air fuel and idle to come down. So yeah it does need one for sure im going with a
starquestJOE
Ive run both 180 and 195. 195 my fans never came on even with very hard driving. With the 180 fans would only come on in traffic and very hard driving. I personally like the 180. I have a autometer electronic gauage and it reads 190-195 but my tec2 reads 180-185. Thats cruisin on the highway. I also have the *DM/cxracing rad.

Preludedude
Well, Ive been driving my new rebuild around for a few minutes at a time...It keeps creeping up to 210 and maybe a hair over, before I park it and turn it off..... I doubt it should be getting this high...I keep topping it off with water/coolant....I wonder if there are still pockets of air or gaps in coolant I need to keep topping off... importwarrior
Did you top off the car when up to operating temp with the heater set to max?
Preludedude
I don't have heater core hooked up. I didnt put water lines running into firewall.
Preludedude
I guess I'll keep running engine til operating temp, then let it cool and add coolest to resevoir. I guess I have to do this multiple times. Until all air is purged and radiator sucks up All coolant it will need. Is this the right method? Right now I've driven the car 3 times up to oper temp and let it cool and added coolant
ucw458
The radiator cap is the highest point so it should have bleed out all the air as you filled it. But if you got a thermostat without a bleeder hole then it can trap air in the engine.
