Probably the result of a cheap donor 2.6 meets a rolling miata shell. Way better performer than stock, no doubt.

g54 will suk with stock gearing and those small tires.... at least needs the 3.36 diff gear

I couldn't see choosing a g54 over the miata 1.8 BP tho, as they are cheap, plentiful, compact, light, great little motors

A dude here in Central Florida did a similar swap. Big turbo, big injectors(TBI) and a built motor. The Miata ran 10s in a 1/4. Just think, a small, light car with a torquey g54b...it will move

Street miatas gone 10s on unopened 1.8 = a header + t3/t4 + fmic/pipes + standalone. RX7 5spd & stronger diff tho

2.6 fit like a glove in old rwd corollas, so a miata should take one ez, Looks like it sits in there ok to me.

why a g54?

Most miata owners do not track their car

Most miata owners agree how straight line acceleration is lacking. It sux.

Power upgrades and various swaps, although far more expensive (than suspension) still very popular

Corolla guys (who wanted to) got their heavier cars comfortably in the 12s still tbi, no spray

Add up what it costs to turbo a stock miata motor + a gearbox swap + standalone/tuning.... to match that

So a 2.6 not be a bad option, especially if u can do your own work, Cheap 54 powertrains r available

Legality may b a concern tho

The local Toyota guys have been putting G54's into 70's and 80's Corollas and getting good results with basically stock motors, but they tend to be old school in their approach. I don't think it makes any sense to do it with access to an SR20DET or 4G63... but it's original and it's all about what makes the owner happy.

u won't swap in a sr20 or 4g63 for anywhere close to what u can find a 54 drivetrain for

May as well go back to the BP 1.8 as its cheap, physically smaller, lighter and has/can match sr20 or 4g63 performance

One can call an ol 2 valve LS "dated technology".... depends on how u look at it.

as long as it gets the job done, eh
