Malykaii
I dont get it. Take a 99 car and put in 89 technology? It would be cool if it was 2.6 mpi, but a throttle body injection system where over half the parts are discontinued?

DieHARDmitsu.
A dude here in Central Florida did a similar swap. Big turbo, big injectors(TBI) and a built motor. The Miata ran 10s in a 1/4. Just think, a small, light car with a torquey g54b...it will move.
Shelby
from the one pic it looks to be a rag top, if so then it's heavier then a sedan would be by a lot

jinx
Probably the result of a cheap donor 2.6 meets a rolling miata shell. Way better performer than stock, no doubt.g54 will suk with stock gearing and those small tires.... at least needs the 3.36 diff gearI couldn't see choosing a g54 over the miata 1.8 BP tho, as they are cheap, plentiful, compact, light, great little motorsA dude here in Central Florida did a similar swap. Big turbo, big injectors(TBI) and a built motor. The Miata ran 10s in a 1/4. Just think, a small, light car with a torquey g54b...it will moveStreet miatas gone 10s on unopened 1.8 = a header + t3/t4 + fmic/pipes + standalone. RX7 5spd & stronger diff tho

TexasQuest
My question is why? It looks like it fits terrible in there. Did they want alot of torque out of a 4 banger or something?
GINASQ
Idk but probably not as good around the track as it was with the original motor
jinx
2.6 fit like a glove in old rwd corollas, so a miata should take one ez, Looks like it sits in there ok to me.why a g54?Most miata owners do not track their carMost miata owners agree how straight line acceleration is lacking. It sux. Power upgrades and various swaps, although far more expensive (than suspension) still very popularCorolla guys (who wanted to) got their heavier cars comfortably in the 12s still tbi, no sprayAdd up what it costs to turbo a stock miata motor + a gearbox swap + standalone/tuning.... to match thatSo a 2.6 not be a bad option, especially if u can do your own work, Cheap 54 powertrains r availableLegality may b a concern tho
GINASQ
IDK one of my best friends had a 1.8 turbo car and it was a blast to drive.
Fuze
The local Toyota guys have been putting G54's into 70's and 80's Corollas and getting good results with basically stock motors, but they tend to be old school in their approach. I don't think it makes any sense to do it with access to an SR20DET or 4G63... but it's original and it's all about what makes the owner happy. Guest
I've seen RB'S stuffed in there, so a 2.6 is no big deal. My question is why? Why go reverse in technology?

jinx
u won't swap in a sr20 or 4g63 for anywhere close to what u can find a 54 drivetrain forMay as well go back to the BP 1.8 as its cheap, physically smaller, lighter and has/can match sr20 or 4g63 performanceOne can call an ol 2 valve LS "dated technology".... depends on how u look at it.as long as it gets the job done, eh
