speedyquest
I appreciate all the positive comments, thanks guys! As you can probably tell, its far from finished. Really it was just in a condition that was ok to drive home. Things like finishing the venting for the hood / intercooler, fixing issues with the paint, fabricating the pieces that will complete the inner lower sections of the front and rear panels, etc all need to be done along with doing some serious work to the interior. I have lots left to do but overall I'm happy with it. I have to say I was a bit nervous when I left Dereks place today. I started it up in the garage, made sure it wasn't leaking, then drove it around the block. After I knew it was mechanically able to drive I let it run till it was at operating temp and made sure my radiator setup wouldn't leak under pressure. Then I got ready for the 3.5 hour drive home. It worked perfectly thank god. As far as why I did the V-mount setup, it was for a few reasons. One big one was that nobody has done one to my knowledge. I've been on this site for quite awhile and I've never seen a true setup done. Secondly if done correctly it can be more efficient than the typical fmic setup and also shorten the intercooler pipes significantly. Technology
Cool. Good that you got it done, but I can see lots of things you can tidy up, which I'm sure you will. But you should get the intercooler modified to have the outlets facing directly where they will end up on the engine, then you could take out probably as much as a foot of the piping you have right now. That would be sweet. Did you notice a difference in spool up? Did the temp ever get high or spike on start-up or anything?

speedyquest
@Andrew - Yea your very right, there are lots of details that need to be addressed that I just didn't have time to get to. But I will take care of them. Moving the inlets for the intercooler is a great idea and I'll look into doing that for sure. As far as efficiency well I think the setup is almost too efficient for the radiator anyway. I believe its running far to cold and not allowing the car to get out of the ecu's "cold loop". I have to do some research as to how to keep the engine from doing this. I was in stopped traffic on the way home and I never had to turn on my fans once. The temp gauge never got more than 2 mm from the first line on the stock temp gauge. Edited August 12, 2014 by speedyquest
Convette
looks good man, nice to see it out of the garage. I like the look of no lower rocker, makes the whole car feel rounder.

Technology
Strange about the temp. I don't think it's "too efficient" as you say, but it's something you need to look into. Is water not flowing past the sensor well enough? You should find a little laser temp reader and check around the engine to see if you're getting hot spots or anything. When the thermostat breaks, they are fail-safe and stay open, usually the car runs cold.
mbruneaux
So the real question now is... What is my car nownow lol? What do I call it?It's a race car, flatty geometry with fatty room for rubber.
speedyquest
That is a good point Andrew and I'll look into that right away. Good call mbruneaux lol.
importwarrior
call it a basking shark. looks like the mouth is always open. as far as car always running cold check the t-stat is not stuck open. or change to a higher temp t-statif you are running a 180 go to a 190 or

speedyquest
Yep. That is a car from China. I saw that car somewhere on the internet.
EVOMINUS
every time i see that china car i want to puke my stomach out of my body.ITS CHINA ALL THE WAY.If only you could see how they have mounded the turbo-vertical to the car- and how they have made the car like cheese in order to save weight....Speedyquest your work is amazing and i really admire you for going all the way with thisFor everyone else that's asking about the v;mount set up:this set up is mostly used in big power drift cars and especially the ones using big entry angles. As the angles became bigger and bigger with several steering trics, there was a very big problem with the air getting to the radiator and intercooler. So there were many times that the engine overheated so much that couldn't finish the race or there was engine and gasket failure ones too often. With this set up the air got trapped inside the v-shape radiator and intercooler and lower tempatures were succeded with less air flow.Another case is that there are some cars that due to their aerodynamic shape, the bumper openings were very small and there was no other way to cool the engine.Just think that in some cars ,behind the bumber opening ,there may be up to 5 coolers or more-radiator,a/c,intercooler,oilcooler,steering fluid cooler etc. Also by using this technic and by opening a large opening on the hood, not only they root the hot air out of the engine bay but the same hot air is used to increase front end downforce which is very crucial for a race car.The shorter root pipes were just a good sideffect. speedyquest
I appreciate the praise Evo, thank you. There is a mitsubishi cookout / car show up at the twin cities this weekend and I plan on cleaning up lots of things on the car, removing the stock oxygen sensor entirely, doing some things to the interior, making the hood duct, etc. I won't be doing that though until I get a chance to drive out to Dukaine's place and help him get his car running. speedyquest
I haven't gotten much done on the car in the last few days, but I did take a short trip with movin-on over to dukaine's place. We got his car running and hopefully he will finish it in time to drive it to the cookout also. Tonight I plan on buying materials necessary to build the hood vent. The materials for doing that are still up in mn in Derek's garage.
