Project "Because Racecar"

I made it home around 2am last night and as you might guess my last thought was of posting pictures here since I had to wake up for work at 7am. I'll post pictures after work. I will say though that doing this whole thing was quite an experience and has given me vast respect for people who do this on a day to day basis and are good at it. Since I left the car while it was still wet I'll have to wait to hear from D_Venable to find out how the paint is drying. I'm really hoping it turns out well.

Pictures to follow.

So I heard from Derek and he said its got some orange peel. Looks like I'll be wet sanding. Otherwise he said it looks good. Here are some pictures from the weekend.

Thanks man, but I don't know how much I could teach you as this was my first time doing any of this stuff. This whole project was just a bunch of firsts rolled into one lol. Thats probably partially why I so under estimated how much time it would take.

Everything is a learning curve..but if u don't try new things ,how will u progress...Im going to try to paint my hood on my 86 first,,before I try on my 87 ...I painted my bumpers and air dam with PPG paint that had the clear coat in it.. If it doesn't turn out perfect,, u cant sand it with out destroying the clear coat ..So this time I bought primer ,,paint and clear coat ,,,so when things don't turn out how I want ...I can start sanding.. :D......how did u ventilate the garage when u were spraying ???

Very true man. If you don't try you don't know if you can do it or not. I did my best to ventilate the garage by opening up the adjacent garage door along with a side door but because of how the wind was blowing that night I couldn't open up the garage door closest to the car and use a box fan like I had originally planned. Keep in mind I had a very good respirator on but even then it still wasn't an optimal situation. I did the best I could with what I had.

Well I will be leaving work tonight and driving back up to D_Venables place YET AGAIN! I will be driving the car back if everything goes to plan. I believe I've built into the schedule more than enough time to assemble the car... lets hope I'm correct lol. I've orded a new aluminum radiator so I will need to modify my front clip assembly slightly, but that shouldn't take much. I've also picked up a sheet metal brake and will be using that to make the aluminum ducting and vent sections.

Wish me luck, I'll need it lol

Well I know I promised pictures, but I still don't have time to do it. I currently need to button up the radiator setup, finish fabricating the ducting for the v-mount, re assemble the drive-train, put the rear hatch back on, finish routing all the wiring, mock up and finalize intercooler piping, modify the exhaust slightly, fill it full of fluids, bleed the brakes and clutch... then hope it moves and doesn't puke everything out lol.
