'87quest
Spend a few hours this last week redoing my valve cover I think it turned out pretty good. Let me know what you guys think! After hand sanding from 80-2000 grit.http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/u560/drakelehr/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-06/103EB981-205D-45EA-8BA0-AC7B1B0D67A9_zpsm3mvjhei.jpg After 3000 grit and painted the inside grooves with 500 degree red paint. http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/u560/drakelehr/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-06/2722DF62-5FF2-4427-BDDD-F171C25595B3_zpsuquc9w6f.jpg I forgot to take a before picture but this VC didn't look as good as my original one on my car that you can see in the background here. I think it'll look sweet installed.. Just waiting new gaskets. http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/u560/drakelehr/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-06/91263122-2049-4813-9691-FCA1425CA256_zpsn6ecpgwh.jpg Think I might do my other one the opposite with the red/polished.. We'll see if I'm in the mood or not Drake
87redcat
That's how I did all the covers on my 74 Honda cb750 motor. You need a buffing and polish wheel. It will look like a mirror done right. It does look good Edited June 17, 2014 by 87redcat

'87quest
Thanks guys! I might look for a buffing wheel and try to shine it up a bit more. Are you guys talking about one that you put in a cordless drill? Or a legit buffing wheel cause I've only used a drill before ha.. But thanks for the complements! Sleepin
What was the original finish of the valve covers? Just plain aluminum?

Skullzaflare
take some compound to it, looks like you only used sandpaper. if you dont compound it it will start corroding up from the clean metal
jinx
i bought one of those harbour frieght drillmaster drills and the pos never holds a drill bit tight enough... but polishing was the only use i found for it. Go thru sandpaper grades 400 > 800 > 1200 > 2000 then the brown > grey > white bars on polishing wheels and it should look like a mirror...... if thats what you're after
