I tightened down my battery terminals, positive was a tad loose. I will see if it happens again, then head to the grounds and solenoid connections. I have found if I turn the key two or three times in rapid succession that it will go from nothing to cranking. Once it cranks, it starts right up. On a side note, I passed 66,666 miles today....maybe it is just the evil lurking in it. I half expected the odometer to start turning the other way once I hit that mark...lol.

The Service Manual is available, but not the 85-86 parts manual anymore....

I am fighting a very intermittent "turn the key and no crank" issue! Almost made me late for work this morning. Time for some electrical troubleshooting....and I hate electrical troubleshooting!

I'm in need of the '86 Parts Manual. Komeuppance's links in the Newbies Section are not working. Does anyone know where I can find another source for one. I searched, but Google appears to not be my friend today. Any help would be appreciated! Happy Veteran's Day to all our Vets! (it should be every day!)

Not to hijack...well, maybe a little. I have recently experienced a starting issue twice with my bone stock '86. The solenoid does not click or anything. Dash lights come on, but that's about it. The first time it happened, I thought it was because I didn't have the clutch in all the way (that is exactly how it acts when my big boots don't push down far enough). I pumped the clutch pedal back and forth a couple times, turned the key off and on and it starts like normal. Is it common to have the clutch safety switch fail? I have read in this thread ( http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88551 )that 88 and earlier cars do not have a safety switch...mine must, because it has never been able to start without the clutch pedal depressed. Any suggestions? It is (so far) a random issue, but it sure leaves a pit in my stomach every time that I turn the key and nothing happens.

I drove it to work today. Had a recent position change at work and lost the company truck (shock to the system, as I have had one since 2005). Now I'll have to alternate between the Starion and the 914. She looks so lonely sitting down there.... http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u307/Sleepin1974/8F8EDDFD-B526-4144-A8B7-1C99474E2461_zpsfkgiebcj.jpg

So newb question, what, why and where is PF? I think I figured out the why....and that makes me want to come out to it one of these years. -

It looked like at some point that someone had a sticker on the PS tail light. Someone then scraped it off with a razor blade.... http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u307/Sleepin1974/6EF41314-9163-4380-9E3E-E989A526BF18_zps7tkyj2yn.jpg I had no idea how to get it out, or if it would even come out...a buddy of mine suggested to use a orbital with a foam pad and some polishing compound. It worked beautifully! I ended up polishing both tail lights...and the scratches are almost invisible! http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u307/Sleepin1974/50C57CD3-9581-412D-87E4-A8EA71318318_zpssxvfkr1p.jpg

Noticed that the glass mounts on the sunroof were pretty faded. A quick wipe with paint thinner and they looked like this: http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u307/Sleepin1974/2015-06/337F6CE4-A2BD-4F72-B158-07CD6C8C597D_zpsyw705iwq.jpg Didn't quite know what to paint them with for a factory finish, so they got sprayed with 3 coats of Plasti Dip. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u307/Sleepin1974/2015-06/FB005B30-00FB-4B0B-BFE7-445511C99A47_zpsk6ya2uuy.jpg Put it all back together and am pretty happy with the results. I may powdercoat them in the future, but for now, this is acceptable for me. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u307/Sleepin1974/A33EC4C1-E072-4BBF-8D8B-4BEE3CD3CD37_zpsozhlxe61.jpg
