BKB94
I am not a huge fan of poly bushings in many suspension locations but the price is the same if i buy all OEM bushings or the full poly set. Since im doing a full resto on my 87 i need to know if you would go 100% stock rubber or poly. It does not help that i have never driven a starquest and the last time i drove in one was probably 1987. Car will have tokico blues up front and MR2 inserts in the rear with coil overs probably around 375-400 front and around 200lb in the rear. I guess if i had to i could mix and match alittle, do to budget i would rather not.
BrazilBoy
My brother has them and he says the handling is firm, flat, and the steering feedback is much better.. Plus poly will last much much longer than stock oem..the stock rubber under hard driving will start to get low spots in 5 years or so... I say go poly....I am
batdude8
much more feed back in suspension. they are an absolute PITA to replace... full weekend job, and you need a torch. GL
psu_Crash
In the process of installing a full poly kit right now. Got the entire front done with new inserts, springs, camber plates, bushings, ball joints, and tie rod ends without a torch in about 5 hours. Although the arbor press came in handy Rumor has it the rear is the real PITA. I will find out in the very near future. Rode/drove in stock and poly setups, I say poly all the way! Chad
It's a lot of work, but it's not hard It firms up the ride, but it's still smooth enough for daily driving. It's a nice upgrade and I don't think anyone would find it too harsh when they feel how responsive the car becomes, makes the car more fun to drive. BKB94
OK so poly kit seems to be the way to go. (BrazilBoy)I have never seen a poly bushing outlast an OEM rubber bushing, Poly seems to split and deform in every car i have ever used them in. Technology
Just make sure you coat them with the grease so they don't squeak when you drive around. I have had them for years and they are fine. Doesn't do that much compared to shocks and springs.

Maxzillian
It's almost hard to explain. You get a very firm and positive ride, but it's not harsh by any means... I think solid is a good word for it.

That's a very good idea. Wish I would have thought of that while I still had the front apart.
Funky Phil
Anyone ever rebuilt using the stock bushings?? Wondering if anyone even knows what thats actually feels like?
BKB94
Anyone ever rebuilt using the stock bushings?? Wondering if anyone even knows what thats actually feels like? That was my thought. I dont know the durometer of the stock rubber but in general the bushings are very small so one would tend to think it would make less difference. Im used to Mustangs with there huge rubber bushings and if you are smart about it you can install ploy in all but 4 locations and still have a very smooth quiet car that handles remarkably better. psu_Crash
When I bought my car 10+ years ago all of the rubber bushings were in excellent shape and had been recently replaced. Also had HKS sway bars and ST springs. Handled very well and felt very tight. Now the rubber bushings are shot from being stored and polys are going in. Mainly because they were easier to get as a full set, but I also want the car as solid as possible for auto-x

Tim_C.
I like the full poly set we installed last winter. It feels nice and handles much better. Quicker, tighter response all around. I am comparing them to old stock rubbers though. No need for grease zerks. Just grease them going in and only do it where it needs it. If the bushing doesn't rotate, do not grease that spot. I had some pros help me do it, and they were very adamant about only using the grease where needed.
Killtodie
a huge PITA to replace, you need to burn out the old ones. but worth it. also, while you have all the bottom end out good time to scrape off all the rust, clean out teh gastank, POR15 on parts http://lh5.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOh4DiVCFI/AAAAAAAAKag/1pkiSk6Plew/s512/IMG_5835.JPGhttp://lh4.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOh5WArouI/AAAAAAAAKak/vkoCgZcJoNo/s640/IMG_5836.JPGhttp://lh5.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOh_CTBizI/AAAAAAAAKa4/na_o6D5yUc8/s512/IMG_5840.JPGhttp://lh5.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOiLeKI-TI/AAAAAAAAKbY/QQGfPo_gSqI/s640/IMG_5848.JPGhttp://lh5.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOiIX-Ax4I/AAAAAAAAKbU/xUQGTR8199c/s640/IMG_5847.JPGhttp://lh5.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOiazNKDLI/AAAAAAAAKb4/YKAKmK6UpoI/s640/IMG_5855.JPGhttp://lh5.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOidoGr8OI/AAAAAAAAKb8/Do6F1NrvIoY/s512/IMG_5856.JPGhttp://lh3.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOiju5ZxDI/AAAAAAAAKcI/HPynPN_Ireg/s512/IMG_5859.JPGhttp://lh3.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOimAwTVyI/AAAAAAAAKcQ/AUDHSIeQET8/s512/IMG_5861.JPGhttp://lh3.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOioozBnbI/AAAAAAAAKcY/_6tCfNNclFQ/s640/IMG_5863.JPGhttp://lh3.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOi6FN3gDI/AAAAAAAAKdE/FtouSoUL1y0/s640/IMG_5873.JPGhttp://lh6.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOi9fp5g_I/AAAAAAAAKdM/wGS5LNOvQyk/s640/IMG_5875.JPGhttp://lh6.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOjGgjUYuI/AAAAAAAAKdo/GIw3Lx70KtI/s640/IMG_5886.JPGhttp://lh3.ggpht.com/_DE6W0quWtjY/SoOjXQ4uZrI/AAAAAAAAKeY/7xjdAKLFsqw/s640/IMG_5897.JPG
psu_Crash
I pressed the old bushings out and then burned off the rubber by putting then in a pie tin with ATF. Piece of cake that way but like stated it can make a mess. Having a press handy made all the difference for me.

Coke
Hmmmmm....looks like I'll be buying this kit soon. I've always wanted to re-bush a TSi and see how she does. My car handles very nicely as it sits, flat and stable. It's got KYB GR2's with ST Springs and ST Swaybars, along with the rare S&M Strut Bars. Bushings aught to help.
