Yes I feel exactly the same. I am in the same boat. I might be able to help you on wheels depending on what you want. I have a set of thoes old school 5 starts that were made for this car. I had them polished nice. 1 has a minor stress crack in it should be an easy weld. Let me know.

well not sure where to go with this one it's a CLASSIC , first rate example of what not to do with a car , i don't mean to piss you off but most likely will,, but i'm sure you've heard all this from your Dad

nothing you list'd is a reason for not being able to drive your car,, theres absolutely no reason you need a BB kit, for what to be able to tell the boys at micky d's you got raceing brakes ,,WELL you already have raceing brakes ,the car has better brakes then 90% of the cars on the road from the factory i' m almost positive your not raceing the car every week end at the local track or are you

and why replace brake booster all lines , replaceing a tire'd master cyl that i see no problem with but common sence goes a long way

wheels the Conquest alum wheel is a stock raceing mag ,it was design'd after years in the raceing world and it is still use'd today

whats with all this talk about a fuel cell, please some one tell me why it's so cool to have gas fumes inside the car 24/7 , to have to stop for gas EVERY TIME the car is driven, why it's so cool to have to have a full tank of gas evey time you full boost or end up with air pockets in the fuel system

your oem fuel tank was specialy design'd for raceing , straight line and off road you won't find a better fuel tank any where

and a $100 fuel filter lol give me a break , several million cars are runing on a $22 filter just fine , if you have trash in the fuel tank clean it out,, a super fine filter will do more harm then good , impuritys in the fuel can clog that filter and cause poor fuel volume flow that leads to lean mixture that leads to spark knock that leads to piston out the side of the engine , the oem filter does it's job just fine

you made this post cause you are tire'd of not being able to drive your car , well stop all this nonsence and get the car runing it's a car not a race car , drive i like you had some sence or you won't be driveing any thing , young people fail to realize just how long there tickets stay arround to pester you, you can end up screwing up most of your life trying to act like a 15 yr old out in dadys car for a joy ride

it needs some new paint ,ok all in good time most of these guys cars needs a little some thing here and there , ain't no big deal, besides odds are you'l add a few dings here and there your self real soon , the thing is drive it take your time enjoy the car as it was ment to be, don't try to make it some thing it is not

I can see his reasoning on a few points, ie, not doing something twice. If you're installing a larger brake setup in the near future, it makes no sense to spend money on stock stuff. Line and booster replacement are peace-of-mind, at least to me.

No comment on wheels, to each is own.

I disagree with the design of our OEM tanks, unless its' baffled inside [which I doubt], I wouldn't use it for a stationary Honda generator, much less a track car.

I wouldn't trust any OEM filter on an engine making anything over 300whp. That's just my opinion, I'd rather spend good money on a quality fuel system and know it's going to do the job properly, than to keep running to AutoZone for the $22 special.

Paint, again no comment, to each is own there as well.

Moral? If you're building a track-prepped car, it won't be done as soon as you think it will. Patience is a virtue, when you rush a spec build, things don't work properly. If it's your only form of transportation [i doubt it], then get the bish running!

Nice Pic Shelby. Maybe sometimes people forget that you are one of the people around here that has actually disassembled and seen the inside of these parts.

Not knowing that these cars have a heritage in racing is almost funny. Getting them to 'refurbished' condition and then start talking about upgrades. They are already upgraded.

These were not 'Corolla S' or Honda VTEC. Conquest TSI is not just some letters. We are more than some wide body kit, staggered wheels, and spoilers.

LOL

" Its words, you cant just make stuff up!"

Ive said it before....

Shelby, the resident voice of reason.

wow 12k....... i feel lucky that 2k has done so much for my car now, good lord.

also, if you are building a track car, you need lots of money, and track days and racing are not cheap, so, if just building the car is breaking your budget, don't even consider trying to race it.

honestly, i bought a beater ESIR for 1000. it had some running issues.

for less than an additional $1000 i ported and rebuilt the head, had a 3 angel valve job, new bearings and seals and gaskets throughout the whole engine, got some SHP seats and struts. rattle can'd the wheels and did a garage paint job.

the car gets tons of compliments, runs 15psi on pump gas, and is a ton of fun to drive. and starts every morning.

can't take credit for the pic, but if you guys would spend more time reading up on your car you'd have seen it long ago

Starquest i-x net SOS pictorial how to manuals , brought to you by the infamous ProffessorQuest

some of you might be amaze'd at what you can learn over there ;)

ok here we go...

1st no you didnt piss me off...just means i need to clarify...

-when i bought this car it came with four 8" rears, all bent.

-stock calipers are shot...why not upgrade?

-mastercylinder shot.

-no reason not to change the booster.

-replace old brake lines with braided ones? for like $150...good benefit.

-my dad has never been a part of my life and i have told him numerous times if he gives me lip i will not hesitate to shoot him.

-my unpaid tickets are my fault and mine alone...and i was 24 when i got them, for driving very angry after my separation with my wife.

-i did not purchase a driveable running SQ this time. If i had, i would be cool. but i didnt because SQ are hard to find in the panhandle.

- oh and i would love to have a stock gas tank...so I CAN BOLT IT RIGHT IN. geez louis lol

-i plan on racing my car every weekend.

-my orig fuel pump was shot, so when pulling the tank and began resto on it, the pick-up tube was shot...no one helped in finding one so i had to buy a fuel cell

-$100 filter...quality.

- i dont eat at micky d's i eat at subway or on base.

-and if i was some punk kid, im sure i would have included a crap load of engine mods...which i didn't. what i listed is what i need to make it drive. Can i run a $5 filter? sure can. but why not buy a real good one and be done with it?

and in ending, no shelby im not mad, i still love you and your voice of reason =)

its sitting on my trailer in my back yard after letting a buddy drive it .

he was in PCB and took off from a light doing a left turn and it started going fast he said.

it spun out and he slid slideways into a big curb and broke my back tire and spindle off along with messing up both rims and tires on that side of car.

bunch of crap i need done to it now and no money to do it.poor thing has been sitting bout a year and a half i havent even crunk it since .

i would have fixed it by now but someone slashed all 4 tires on my van and some other bad sh** has happened so i can never seem to get the money to get even a battery for her .i sold my whole mpi setup : ( ..its sad as hell

Why dont you just buy a junkyarded conquest/starion? I think you would find some use in it.

the junkyards around here dont even sell whole cars.

i was able to find a junk yard here with a few quests in it then i went back a few months later ready to by one and the guy already crushed like 11 of them he said .

he took all the turbos and intercoolers and sold them then crushed the cars.

I want to chime in here on brakes. I boiled over my brake fluid and got brake fade fast at an autocross. In 4, 1 min runs spaced about 3 min between starts. I am running SS braided lines front and rear, the ceramic pads that kelly used to sell, and cheap napa rotors. For what you call race bred engineering I am not impressed. And im not racing my car every weekend, only a few times a year! I still would like a better setup.

Maybe it was because I am running dot 4.

But then I looked over at that Brand new 08 Evo ripping it up on the track. It is bone stock and he has no brake fade. He is also running dot 4 fluid. That would mean the fact that the rotors are 13" they have better heat dissipation and more maximum torque. They are also a 4-pot design that dissapates more force and heat dissapation, and they are made of ALUMINUM which dissapates heat more easily and is also lighter, so it ads to less unsprun weight to improve handling.

I don't see the design advantages of the factory braking system. It was a great caliper in the 70's but come on! This thing is an antique!

mine's not getting anywhere... but I am not mad... it gave me the excuse to hunt up the car I wanted more.

now it's time to start back on it... I need a pro's opinion on it now, though... if it needs rebuilt it will get swapped...

I have nothing but time, though now..

Yes autocross is hard on brakes.

1: Ceramic pads may work, or some Hawks or semi-metalics. You have to experiment.

2: If you are into flushing your fluid and replacing it bi-annually DOT-5 may be your ticket.

3: Have you addressed your ducting? You can make use of the spoiler area in the car and fashion some ducting to the brakes.

4: (If those cheap modifications did not address the problem) then yes maybe a big brake upgrade is for you.

BTW you check the price on an 08 Evo? IF you can they definately are superior to the Quest in every way, but thats 20 years of R&D. (this car came out in 83 not the 70's. Cars were rocking Drums in the 70's , Autocross that!) LOL

The point a lot of people are trying to make is.. Start with the car at a know baseline (umm, like refurbished/restored factory condition) Then improve the weaknesses . Just like your EVO friend is likely to do once he starts to feel certain systems are 'inadequate'.

Throwing money and mods at a car without a really clear plan just tends to make it 'worse' as you lose the initial balance the factory was 'aiming' for. Now if that car was initially a compromise (like ours are) then you may end up with 'sub-par' performance in certain arenas' . Give this car is considered a GT or Grand Tourer, with its AC, Power windows, cruise control, speed sensitive wipers, etc etc.. It wasn't intended as a 'hard-core' car as say a Rx7 or TT 300xz. (Although the Z is a bit watered down from the first gen Z cars, but that's a tangent). So you want to motorcross, you would be hard pressed to beat out a tweaked Miata. But, these cars are very versatile and present a solid platform. Enjoy it for what is it, don't try to turn an elephant into a giraffe.
