I'm going to assume that didn't happen. I like where your head is at though Kev!

Of course something has to kick you while you think it's good! Paint the whole fender and in a month you will be ready to paint the whole car. I would do as small of a spot as possible and try to feather it out. I hear you on the paint though. Sometimes it goes great. Sometimes .... Those patch panels look good to me! The moment you saw a spot on the outside of the rear quarter, we all knew what you would find. Keep up the good work! Once it's driving again you will remember why you fight with it -
6 hours from me ... ☹️

Most of us are hacks compared to Kev's work, so don't worry about judgement here! i spent the past 4 years cutting rust out of mine, then fabbing and welding. There is ALWAYS more rust then you think. Looking forward to some pics of your progress to keep this thread alive 😊 Very interested to see am air/water IC setup and how you do it. -

There's the rest of the party! I routed mine very similar to how Kev did it. Just with a lot less shiny! -

Getting that pulley off can be fun. Strategic percussion application and a puller work best in my experience. There are still some multi port intake manifolds out there for sale if you look around a bit. Modifying a mitsubishi magna intake (never sold in the USA) is a very popular option, also what I am currently running. There have been a lot of DIY multi injector manifolds over the years too. So pick your poison there. I ran 75# low impedance EV-1 injectors for a long time putting down more power than your goal. I would still recommend something in that size range though so you have a little head room in the future. The stock intercooler is too small for any real upgrades in my opinion. You can get an upgraded IC from CX Racing that is tried and true. -

Staying with wasted spark definitely reduces the amount initial setup heads aches. you are correct, the distributor is just that. There are a couple guys who sell the dizzy block off plate. Here's one. https://www.motocam360.com/component/hikashop/product/174-starquest-distributor-blockoff-plate You are way ahead of the curve already. Sounds to me like you know exactly what you're doing. I'll sit back and wait for the updates 😎 -

If there is anything you want to do with the steering box or its lines. Now is the time while the intake is off. Sounds like you already have a good plan. Clean it while you can get to it. I assume you plan to install a trigger wheel on the crank for the MS tach input? Just FYI you can run a modified distributor from a mighty max that will give you crank and cam signal. Then you have the option of sequential down the road. If you want more details just let me know. -
Where to send steering box to get rebuilt?
psu_Crash replied to varzaman's topic in Virtual Mechanic
You could always make your own lines for that if you're feeling ambitious. I had the local Napa make a high pressure line for me many moons ago. Once you figure out the fittings needed, it isn't a big deal. Somewhere in the archives here I'm sure that information survives ... somewhere. -

psu_Crash replied to varzaman's topic in Virtual Mechanic
I highly recommend ditching the hard lines for a flexible setup. Although I don't know who makes them anymore. I also recommend RedHead Steering Gears for a rebuild. They did mine 10+ years ago and it has been GREAT! -
What signal does an auto trans need to work properly?
psu_Crash replied to Mike7447's topic in Newbie Question and Answers
Sounds like you are running fuel only on the MS. That won't effect the trans. I'm not well versed on the autos though. I'm sure someone else will chime in. -
Greetings from the North Charlotte area!
psu_Crash replied to just_some_dude's topic in Newbie Introduction
Welcome and Congrats!! I went and looked at that car 2 weekends ago. Too much rust for me to deal with it when I've spent the last few years cutting rust out of another one. It did seem to run well though! Had a little smoke on decel was the only thing I noticed. FYI I'm pretty sure those hood struts are installed upside down. May be the cause of the difficult to open hood. I about died when he just man handled it open as it's right against the cowel! Not sure what to think of the clutch. I noticed that too. Maybe bleeding it out and just working it a little. Did you notice the whining sound from the trans area that disappears when you push the clutch? Something in there isn't right. Shifter fulcrum bushing is also gone. Hence the slop in the shifter. All in all it is definitely fixable with time, cash and love. We will be here to answer questions along the way. If you haven't seen them yet, the service manuals are available at StarQuestGarage.com. I end up in the Charlotte area for work a couple times a year. Next time I'll try to remember and reach out. -
Sucks things are still giving you issues. We get the point though. Both those cars look bad A$$!

psu_Crash replied to Mike7447's topic in Newbie Introduction
Welcome back! Sounds like a nice find! My opinions HP mod: Go MPI with a standalone. Decent T3 flange exhaust manifold and a ball bearing turbo. Suspension: D2 all the way. Although there are some other coil over options out there now that are probably fine. As for the trans linkage, a short throw shifter and new fulcrum bushing will be night and day difference. Sounds like your fulcrum bushing is gone. I bought a couple of them of a member here years ago. Might be a little tricky finding one now. I'm not really sure. P.S. I'm also Mike, and I may be an alcoholic 😊
