Stock cam vs schneider 292 vs "Rock the Banshee"

I think this might help see how they all worked out.

 

 

The Last one I was not sure of is the same cam as the one right by it its a Mech 292

no 292 roller yet. I'm worried about interference with 1.6 ratio roller rockers pushing the valves into the cylinder so far. I have a spare M6 head. Just need to get around to assembling it with roller rockers and the 292 roller grind to see just how it looks. I'm sure someone smarter than me could just do the math, but I really want to see it for some reason. Thanks for all your effort on getting these charts put together for comparison. The other graphs you put together were really useful as well. Makes me want to bolt on a GT35R and make some real power.

I did. That tainter combo-graph has me confused now. There were only 3 cams compared in this thread, not 4. Not sure where he got the mystery roller graph.

 

Since my 321.5 wasn't enough to bump Rahsaan's 321 for the top 20 list :lol:, I guess I need to head back to the dyno without a bad WBO2 sensor and with the right cam, so right now I need info on fitting a 292 roller. Schneider is happy to grind one for 1.6 ratio rockers, but I have no idea how much clearance the valves will have from the pistons. Any ideas?

We need to know lift specs. What valves? And are your valve guides prepped?

 

 

I'll see what I can find. There's actually 292 roller specs from pagemo in this thread somewhere iirc. My head is an all stock magna m6. no valve work or anything.

Ok I was not sure that one that the unsure one is your Mech 292 Cam I think I just put 2 diff runs on there

If the valve guides are too tall you risk crushing stem seals at high lifts. I think .500 is crush zone.

It depends on the springs too. I've seen them hit (stem seal top to keeper) with .480 lift and HD springs. The HD springs loosened up to 93 Lbs seat pressure. They all do after the first few hours of run time on new HD springs. It is best to get around 105 - 110 lbs of seat pressure when installing new HD springs. Then they will settle closer to 100. However, for a high lift roller cam, more than and HD spring is needed. I know Chip did a lot of research on getting a 120 Lb spring or so in there. Not sure what he ever ended up with in the end?

.465 lift is pretty safe there.

As far as intake valves hitting pistons, that depends on all aspects of the grind and the combination thereof. High lift, long duration, wide sep, open and close positions, etc... A Schneider 292 roller will most likely hit the intake valve to the piston outer shelf area. The use a wide lobe sep at 114, coupled with 292 duration and that is enough to hit with the other grind characteristics Ive seen them use on all of their rollers. That I've seen anyway. Not saying they haven't made changes. I just haven't seen them.

Some of that power increase can be due to running 13.5 AFR. Thats a little lean to be running at 15+ psi.

 

I'm really confused with your results. They contradict everything about that cam.

1- Schneider claims that cam is for high rpm (as in 6000 to 9000 ) race only.

I can't see how you only lost 1 ft lb of torque unless the loss was masked by the lean condition.

2- bigger cam means more air means more fuel yet you said you pulled fuel out. :?

 

Thanks for taking the time to get results, especially since you will be swapping it out to replace with something else down the road.

yes the longer overlap also reduces static compression and and effects dynamic compression

 

everytime i switched from the magical hr70(272) cam to my 294 i had to pull alot of fuel low end, and some top end

Thanks for setting Heefner straight. He's had that RPM range wrong for nearly 8 years, :lol:. I still mean to go back to a 292 cam, but as a roller. I lost too many engines to slip rockers to go back to them, although with all the more I drive the car it would probably be fine. Need to find a rear end vibe and get it Cali smog legal before I can enjoy it much.
