Thanks for asking. I've made some progress:

  • Front cross-member is together along with control arms/ball joints/etc.
  • Full steering system is on the car (rebuild power steering box, new tie rods, center link, etc).
  • Rear cross-member/A arm system is together and ready to bolt up but waiting for differential
  • Heater core and blower motor fully rebuilt and bolted in car.
  • All wiring harnesses with exception to MPI harness is installed on car.
  • Steering column is rebuilt and bolted in car.
  • Brake vacuum booster is rebuilt, painted, and ready to bolt on car.
  • Rear differential is on my bench being rebuilt (was working on it last night actually)
  • Rear axles are apart and on the bench ready for rebuild
  • All parts to build the struts are in and ready to be assembled (next in line after the rear differential rebuild)
  • Next things to buy: brake rotors, calipers (may rebuild my original, not sure yet), brake soft lines

Will have pictures shortly. The spring and fall are my busy seasons at work...I typically travel for my job...so this isn't the time of year that I get much work done on my projects.

All brake line and fuel line mounts are stock. I had to open up the blue plastic in the brake/fuel line mounts to accept the larger diameter tubing. They just barely fit.

My other resto is a 68 mustang gt fastback...my dream car. Took me 9 years to talk the owner (a friend of mine) into selling it to me. It is sitting right next to this car. i had to cover it up and pile crap all over it (mostly CQ parts) to keep myself focused on the CQ rather than the stang, lol.

Thanks, i didnt know they still sold the brackets and mounts for

the fuel and brake lines still. figured like all other stuff they no

longer make them.

the mustang sounds awesome!

Oh, I'm not sure. They are all the original ones that were on the car. I simply just blasted/primed/paint them. For the plastic parts, Wesley's Bleech White gets them looking brand new.

Some update pics.

Just started working on the brake system. Running out of things to do before I drag out the engine components. The engine/trans are my scheduled winter projects.

Figure it is time for an update even though I haven't done too much. Car pretty much sat untouched this winter. I'm starting to get back into it. For once I had the covers completely off of it, so I snapped a few pics.

Only thing keeping it on the jackstands in lieu of 4 wheels are the brake calipers. Should have those on very shortly.

Finally took the engine block out of hibernation and have been going thru all of the parts, hardware, etc. Cleaning them up and inventorying them. Looking forward to starting the build up.

Also will be fully rebuilding my 89 transmission.

Wow!!! This is the nicest Starquest I've ever seen! I'm new here and have been seeing your signature pic and was hoping you had a build thread for the restoration and I'm so glad I found it. Definitely tuned in for future updates, and to check back often just to drool over it! Awesome detail and it's great that you're doing it all yourself. Can't wait to see more!

Thanks for the kind words.

Slow and steady is what this project is about. Well very slow and sorta steady, lol. After seeing the latest pic of Frenchi's car, I think I prefer just looking at this thing in the garage over driving it down the road, lol.

Brakes are on and working. Car is still on the stands for now, but will be coming down closer to the ground to start the MPI wiring process. I can also start some of the interior assembly now (at least the head liner and some of the A and B pillars).

Just finished a full tear down and rebuild of the KM132 tranny...another PIA task, lol. But learned some more new things from this restoration. Have pics of every step of the way...maybe if I can get myself out of this SQC slump that I've been in, I'll create a thread about it.

Sold my 88 tsi daily driver and am using the cash to buy the remaining engine parts that I need. Currently trying to re-learn all the info about MPI that I forgot 10 years ago when I started the full car restoration, haha.

BTW: POR-15 Caliper Paint SUCKS!!!! Don't use it! Took me a week to hand paint the calipers per their defined process. Not happy with the end result...think I could have done better with a rattle can of duplicolor high temp paint. Should have had the castings ceramic coated prior to reassembling them....live and learn.

Marc! How have you been buddy? Long time no see. Not much has changed around here, I'll tell you that. What are you driving now? What ever happened to that mint condition 83?

i can't believe it has been that long since you left...8 years...damn. I guess that is about right though, I've got a 7 and a 5 year old...hence what has been keeping me busy rather than cars.

It's been a rough last 3 1/2yrs. Lost my brother, grandmother, 5 other friends and 2 pets... On the good side of things, my kids are doing great. (17, 15, 6 yo)

Sold the '83 a few years back. Been sq-less since. Looking for a nice wide body again.

Hope all is good with you and the family.
