Sadly in NJ even with your FID and legally owned firearm, it has to be in the "trunk" where it's out of reach and useless. Otherwise, you're getting arrested. If you're stopped and the gun is in the trunk and they learn about it, you're not going anywhere for a few hours. My FID application here took 9 months, when the law is that it be processed in 30 days. You should see the hoops you have to jump through just to get that.
