mistapickles
Just like the topic says... I'm looking for options to stop using my pop-ups, aerodynamic reasons, and I'm wondering if anybody has tried this. And if not, does anybody know the dimensions of the lights, like height, width, depth?

patra_is_here
those lights are really terrible looking. its like some designer at GM wanted to have covered, flowing headlight design, and then the manager was like 'nah, just throw these horrible double square bulbs in there instead'. Burton
out of curiosity, why not just run fog lights? Fog lights or parking lights will not put out the proper light, or enough light compared to true headlights. I suspect, he wants to make sure he can have lights that can legally be considered headlights. Personally, I think those Camaro headlights will still be too tall to fit in the grille gap without some modification. Luckily, you know a guy who can do all the fab, body and paint work;)

I just remember getting hassled by the cops in my lowered bug for the headlights being too low and their baton being the measuring instrument. I need to be able to have headlights without the popups and this seems like a route. I'm thinking behind where the grill would be and perhaps with some sort of tinted lexan over it. Does anybody have a set of these lights for measurement?
patra_is_here
ohhh in the grill. i get it now. but still, NO. you need these. Hella 90mm projectors. (about 3.5 inches) http://www.amazon.co...s/dp/B000CSWB4S or they have em in 60mm for low beamshttp://www.amazon.com/HELLA-998570001-60mm-Beam-Headlamp/dp/B002MFTGQA/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_5 Edited June 21, 2013 by patra_is_here
mistapickles
I think those are too tall for what I want to do. I need to find out how tall those Camaro lights are, it looks like they are the same height as the grill piece.

slowquest
The Camaro lights (They came on a few other GM's as well, I got mine out of a Geo Metro at the junkyard) will not fit in the height of the grill. You could possibly mount them behind the grill, but they wouldn't get the right light pattern at that point. I did a set of these in the Starion that Burton painted for me a few years ago. I'll get pics tomorrow (away from the home computer at the moment) These were installed in place of the popups. The header panel had to be modified (the opening was widened) ETA: I remembered that I had some pics on 26liter.... http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10108/thumb_PICT0683.JPG http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10108/PICT0684.JPG http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10108/Picture_003.jpg Edited June 21, 2013 by slowquest

BrazilBoy
Why not a slight pop down instead? Where in at the curve of the headlight lids, cut it, hinge it and let them drop down slightly to reveal small protectors? Maybe graft in later model 3KGT head units? sexygomer
The biggest problem that you may have with those lights is reliability. I worked in parts and a tech for 10+ years, those bulbs were ALWAYS going out. And they were none too cheap to replace ($24 dollars compared to standard h6054 @ $10). The believe they generated a bit more heat due to the smaller housing which led to shorter life span.
patra_is_here
what aerodynamic reasons are you concerned about? why not do fixed lights like convette or dveneble?
Fuze
I considered those when I did my fixed headlights years ago, and would have used them if I could get a set cheap back then. These lights are in a few other cars too. I have seen them mounted in the fog light spot too. Keep going, anything original is going to take some trial and error. If you're worried about blowing bulbs, get some $40 HID's the bulbs will last forever.
Shelby
I don't get the with out pop ups,, why not install the super hi deff pulbs in the same mount that our reg head lamps go and use the pop ups,, doing 200 mph after dark is not a good thing

I had the flush hedlights for a while, they are original and can work a lot better dpending on what parts you use. Most race cars with popups that use lights during racing run fixed headlights, for weight savings and aero. Me personally, I like speeding at night on the backroads.
mistapickles
There are other reasons I don't want the pop ups. Aerodynamics is one of the reasons. Yes convette and dvenable have done conversions but until they start selling them I don't want to have to recreate the wheel they already made. And I think for uniqueness reasons I want to try this route
patra_is_here
ok. just remember, the lower the lights are the worse your visibility is going to be because of the longer shadows created due to the decreased angle of the lights relative to the ground.
