Starfighterpilot
I strongly suspected this for some time but now the truth comes out. http://rt.com/usa/ne...l-citizens-178/ This stinks! It's sort of like wire tapping, but to do that you need a judge's permission. What happened to our constitutional rights? For What It's Worth. Viewska2
yuppers, I'm a systems administrator at a hosting company, and I say this with all seriousness: If its digital, its archived. legit, every email, facebook post, status update, photo or blog, once created will exist for as long as the human race has electricity. You can think you delete or remove whatever you want, but the sobering fact a lot of people are realizing is that it will NEVER truly go away. Be it big brother or wiz kid, nothing personal and can all be obtained without your consent. do you really want your great great great grandkids to know everything about you?? Sorry, but they will
jszucs
Well you have to look at it this way too.. Who owns the network... IE if your on my network (inside my firewall) the data being passed is mine. People will put up networks just for this purpose IE have there own secured network, but have a second network completely open they don't use other then to scrape peoples info that do use it. Fanta
Yup. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/03/ff_nsadatacenter/ Whenever I'm at home there are times where I use a VPN service that doesn't keep logs, along with other precautions. I find it kind of crappy. I mean, I can understand from a busienss perspective ( I work at an MSP, all phone calls are recorded etc in case a law suit happens, all emails are archived, etc ) plus you have SOX, HIPAA, 27001, etc compliance. But your run of the mill citizen? Hilariously, it's what the group Anonymous is trying to fight against.
Guest
I find it hard to believe big brother has the resources to monitor billions of items of communication. But as stated, unless you're doing something wrong, like drugs or something immoral like incest, don't worry about it.

Not really. http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/threatlevel/kleinsecretroomsmall.jpg That picture was leaked by a whistleblower within AT&T as belonging to the NSA, within an AT&T data center. So, NSA has their own closet within service providers, probably filtering through traffic via search terms and queries, which then get further deseminated

MikeMeyerhoff
"don't worry about it unless you are doing something wrong" is a pretty typical responce to big brother arguements. The flaw is that YOU aren't in control of what is considered "wrong". Big brother decides what is wrong or not, when most of agree it should be a jury of our peers. The only real way to fight this sort of thing is to render it useless. Everything we all do online needs to include whatever words and phrases are in thier filter list. Sort of like spamming craigslist
