Stupid deer!!!

Well crap, hit a deer tonight. I was going about 60 and a rather large buck jumped in front of me hitting the driver side headlight and leaving a nice sh#t splatter as well. It was dark and I was mad so I didn't look too closely to see what the exact damage was, luckily the radiator and intercooler seem fine as the car will still boost and didn't lose any coolant. unfortunately the hood has a good wrinkle and buckle on the driver side, fender, bumper, headlight, header panel and grill are all destroyed. Not sure on the frame, hopefully its ok but it was a pretty hard impact. I'll get a good look at it tomorrow, seems likely I may transplant everything into another shell I have and start over. Took a few pics with my phone, I'll get some better ones tomorrow.

Holy crap...sorry to hear that. Hopefully the damage is just cosmetic and everything under the skin is OK. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

If the frame rails where the bumper are bolted up you shoul dbe able to get it bqack to nice with the right parts.

Luckily I have a few shells and a bunch of extra parts. The car should be savable and it will be repaired too, but I want to transplant into an automatic shell for the bigger tunnel.

That's my biggest fear around here. I've jammed on the brakes many times to avoid a deer. I've hit cats, raccoons, and other small creatures. Been lucky so far.

yep, this is my second deer hit with a conquest, the other one was almost exactly the same damage but on the passenger side. I haven't checked it yet but hopefully the windshield is ok, that may be the maker/breaker on this one.

Looks almost the same as when i hit one in my '83, even the poop splatter down the drivers side is about the same as i recall lol. Glad your ok and hopefully the car is fairly easy to fix.

ok, got a good look at it today and it isn't too bad, frame looks fine, may need slight adjustment, windshield is fine, core support is definitely bent. Mechanically it looks fine. This looks like an easy fix to me, but I will still probably use the insurance money to build my automatic shell and swap everything over. Also talked to the insurance company and I think it went well, luckily we are somewhat familiar with each other as I have a body shop and have done work for them in the past, hoping to get a good settlement and save the car from being totalled.

 

Plans are to build my automatic shell (bigger trans tunnel), on the fence on wether or not to keep the purple or go with fiji. Bodywise the plans are to shave the bump off the rear bumper, mold front spoiler to bumper and make a big mouth, shave rear windshield wiper, antenna, fuel door lock and door handles. I will be painting an extra set of doors just in case the poppers don't work out. Otherwise the powertrain will stay similar and I'd like to add ac. Its gonna take a while, but I'd like to have it done by spring.

That's a smart pooch, "hhmm, I smell deer dung here!" lol I saw a dead deer today on the 134 FWY in LA, just before Pasadena. Surprised to see one on that side of the FWY, was big yo. Must have jacked up somone's car bad.

 

So what happened to "your" deer? Hope you got a good BBQ out of it? I've heard those are pretty tasty! lol

thats the bad part, couldn't find the deer, its hard to believe it survived this as it was one heck of an impact. Maybe I should bring my dog to the scene to sniff it out!

hmm, my core support doesnt look to different from that lol. atleast yours looks alot easier to fix. since it bent at the top, pull the radiator and see if it buckled at the frame rails (mine did)

Unfortunately it was down... untasty!

Nope, hood was already in bad shape and is really bad now. Luckily i have another 83 hood for it that is much nicer.

Kinda reminds me of the night I was drivign home from college. In the darkest part of the highway, I just see a deer's head flash by the passenger side of my car. If I were an half sec slower, it prolly would have taken out my passenger side. At least you are ok. Not everybody survives hitting a deer.

I'll prolly hold onto it in case i need it in the future, i have a problem letting go of sq parts! But message me when your passing thru and maybe we can work something out, for now its a wall hanger.

Yep, i live out in the sticks and have seen much worse so i know i got lucky, still sucks, i hate seeing sq's get wasted. This is my fourth or fifth deer hit.
