List of RARE parts

Cars:

1989 Starion: Although there were both Conquests and Starions sold as 1989 models, only 159 of them were badged as Starions.

1985.5 Intercooled Flatty: This was the only factory intercooled Flat body. The only 5 lug flatty. These were only built for one month in May of 1985. There is no documentation of how many were made. (It has been pointed out further in this thread that this statement is not true. These were produced in other months in 1985. Also, there were also intercooled flatty Conquests, which appear to been even more rare than the already rare intercooled flatty Starion)

This is absolutely not true. My 1985.5 Dodge Conquest was built in late March 1985. It has the 5-lug and the intercooler. I have the original paperwork from the original owner and original sales slip. I think 568 of these Conquests were made. An equal number of 85.5 Starions were built as well. I estimate only 50-100 Conquests and about 100-200 Starions for that 1985.5 year exist. These are good-known examples exist today...Something in a junk yard or not restored or showable condition would not qualify.

Just my 2 cents...

Cheers,

Slim Jim

I dont know if you guys are including Japanese parts in this list of rare bits.. But the OP is incorrect about the 85.5 being the only intercooler flatty... JD Starions in AUS were intercooled, and intercoolers were an option on almost all japanese starions. Ive seen a couple of factory 83 intercooled models kicking around my home town in the last few years.

Its good that you are adding to this list of rare parts , originally I think it was only about north american vehicles

becaue in any regard right hand drive is going to be different, allot of people have swapped parts from either model to the other and the VIN usually tells what the original factory order was.

Front and rear Mookeh MK1 strut tower braces. Are these rare?

...and what about a polished Mitusubishi valve cover?

http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac302/nfelge/null-7.jpg

I scored both these, a custom downpipe, and a nice airdam! (the entire motor, actually)

The strut bars are not rare but the misubishi valve covers are becoming rare.

I have an 87 quest tsi. I have the mudflaps the floor mats the maroon fabric interior sunroof and sunroof bag. Also have the uk taillights and 160mph speedo cluster. Also the car is original and has shp rims and 6 bolt rear axles so I guess my car has the shp pkg factory. It only has 29,500 miles on it.

Sounds like an enthusiast had your car at one time.... that stuff does not add up, especially on an 87.

not really a part, but how rare are 4WS Starions? Weren't there only like 3 made, and they were in Japan only?

what about the 1 year they made the awd starion

Starion 4WD[edit]

http://bits.wikimedia.org/static-1.22wmf8/skins/common/images/magnify-clip.pngThe Starion 4WD was never fully developed, due to the cancellation ofGroup B

The Starion was not very successful off-road, but found victory in Group A World Rally Championships and Asia Pacific Rally Championships during 1987 and 1988. An all wheel drive version of the Starion was also produced for Group B specifications (one of the few Japanese automobile manufacturers to enter this class), but after an encouraging start as a prototype, it was not homologated before the FIA banned Group B cars for safety reasons. The Starion was converted to all wheel drive by adding a strengthened transfer case from a Pajero behind the transmission. This configuration allowed the engine to be situated well back in the chassis, for improved front/rear weight distribution compared to the Audi Quattro, whose configuration required the engine to be far forward in the car. Although the wheelbase did not change, the use of regular headlights rather than the production model's pop-up headlights allowed the nose to be six inches shorter, as well as saving several pounds in weight. Further weight was saved by the use of carbon fiber for the driveshafts, sump guard, and lower arms of the suspension, and fiberglass for the hood (bonnet), tailgate, door skins, fenders, bumpers and spoilers, resulting in a final weight of less than 1,000 kg (2,200 lb), lighter than the Audi Quattro. The car was developed with a turbocharged and intercooled version of Mitsubishi's 2.0 L fuel injected engine, but the final goal was to use a turbocharger and intercooler 261 kW (355 PS; 350 hp) version of the Sirius Dash engine that Mitsubishi announced at the 1983 Tokyo Motor Show, which switched electronically at 2500 rpm from one inlet valve per cylinder to two. The car was campaigned for Mitsubishi by Team Ralliart in Essex, Great Britain, under rally veteran Andrew Cowan and engineer Alan Wilkinson, who had developed the Audi Quattro for Audi Sport UK.

now that would be a rare car not a rare part

I have to disagree with the OP. 82 was the first year and it was non turbo.

The Starion GX had no power windows, no air conditioning, no independent rear suspension, no fuel injection and did not have power-assisted steering.
