header panel vent count? :)

Well you already saw the header panel vent in my pic above. Here's the header panel I did for the wifey's car...

Both cars have custom grilles as you can see, should we count those next?

Maybe next can make a set of grills that close off at higher Speeds (assuming engine is running cool) for improved arrow dynamics. Kinda like the new focus could have 3 settings one closed for high speeds and engine is not too hot, second just opend vents so around town or slightly warm, or have the whole header pannel open up like a pop up head light for when its over heating

Edit: Just had idea to have 2 more pop up headlights installed in the header panel for fog lights! I have a pair of Montero head lights and some extra head light popper motors haa but maybe not enof room their just and idea I think would be cool.

My scoop is off an old Z. Significantly lowered my underhood temps. And looks cool too :)

You have good heat shields on your turbo and exhaust manifold? Dont want your turbo or exhaust to get too cold reducing performance, and incase of rain..... possibly damaging

Minimal heat shields. Exhaust manifold and turbine housing are ceramic coated so they don't throw crazy heat. If it rains she stays in the garage ;)

I hope to finish it one day but i used our side vents for hood vents, they are cut into the hood but no idea if they will help or hurt air flow lol.

Now, spacing the rear of the hood with washers is very effective for allowing hot air to escape at idle or standstill.

Thought I'd pitch in on this. I've been testing 1" spacers on my car for a few weeks now and have concluded that they can only be effective at a standstill. To that point it does seem there is a marginal gain, but not much.

Using string testing I found that as soon as you begin moving, pressure building up at the cowl attempts to shove air underneath the hood. This effect is pretty mild until you get up to 20-30 mph. By the time you get up to 80 (Love Kansas for bumping the limit on interstates) there is a very noticeable amount of air ramming underneath the hood which would be detrimental to helping get air through the radiator.

my hood is inspired by a Ferrari 599xx, it gets to 105 here in the summer and all last summer I ran nothing but my secondary fan. As long as I was going at least 10 mph it cooled my radiator. My car was a boost fiend at night, the cold air that ran through the front definitely made it to the air box.

EDIT:mostly from what I have read, lifting the back of the hood makes suction at the bottom of the engine bay causing air flow through the radiator to cease all together and air to be pulled from underneath the car. This scenario makes your fans work twice as hard to cool your radiator. If you are going to do anything similar to this get a cowl induction hood, the rise that is way at the front creates suction at the front of the engine bay making it effective, lifting just the back of a stock hood only creates suction at the back of the hood.

Pickles: Where did you source those vents?

Ferrari tech in a Starion! Yeah, it was nice timing that your post came out only a few days later.

Even then, I did try a search for your original post as I did recall seeing it once, but I'm sorely disappointed in the forums search engine.

Yeah using Google to search the forums seems much better.

The Z scoop looks pretty good there Bob.

I'm probably going with the stamped louver look, really popular with rat rods but can looj on-point if done right. Check out the Rx7s in this link, http://speedhunters....es-rx7-day.aspx , my '79 Rx7 had tye same louvers as the black one with the white lip (6th one from the top), and I thought it looked properly evil.

Stamped louvers are my all time fave. Good thing I don't have access to a press or they'd be all over my car, lol.

These are dope, ONLY $10??!! SERIOUSLY, search Amazon for hood scoops and you'll find some cool stuff.

Check out the jeep cowl louvers/vents, they are nice and flat, look good.
