marso
I stopped listening to Rush after the Moving Pictures album. They went too much "radio friendly" for me. Still a big fan of the old stuff like the Necromancer on the cd you're listening to. You're also right today's music blows. Musicianship has gone the way of the instant hit. Bunch of sellouts. Where is the shredding guitar solo's? Edited July 27, 2010 by marso

psu_Crash
My friend just called me over the weekend saying he had 2 tickets to see Rush with BACKSTAGE PASSES!! ... but I was in my cousin's wedding the same day  Chris, I'm with you 100% on today's music being total crap! JessN16
I've started to get more into them. I always thought "Time Stand Still" was a great song when it was released, although it came from Rush's much-hated "synth period." I actually like their recent stuff a great deal, particularly the "Vapor Trails" album. No one can touch those guys for musicianship. The best rock drummer and rock bassist of the last 30-40 years are playing together in the same band. You can't beat that... Jess

Jess Actually there are a few good bands out but you won't hear them on the radio. Neil Peart is one of the Prog Rock originators on drums but has handed down the title of best drummer (if there ever will be a "best") to Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater. I can't stand DT's singer but the other's are such good musicians I can listen to it. YouTube them and watch some of the tutorials from John Petrucci on guitars, John Myung on bass and Jordan Rudess (from the Dixie Dreggs if any of you know who they are) on keyboards. They are a one of a kind band. I feel sorry for anyone who never saw a unique band like Rush, Pink Floyd, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Frank Zappa and others. It's something you will never forget. My money is on Peart. What I think separates him from the others is his ability to play more styles. Check out his work on the Buddy Rich tribute. I bet you can't find 10 guys working today who are that at-home behind a jazz kit. Another great bass player working today is Mark Harmon from The 77s. On guitar, Mike Roe from that same band ain't bad, but I think people criminally overlook Leo Kottke. Jess
