JAinsworth
I haven't heard that. They used to be a "republic" of the U.S. but we granted them their soveriegnty (sp?) so they could be their own country. Maybe they want to join the health care reform freight train now. JAinsworth
TISK, TISK, Jimmy. You're not getting political now are you? Just kiddin' I could not resist it! KEN lol, that is about as political as I care to get. Politics divide friendships, I don't care to go there. I am a live and let live type person. I respect your views and opinions but I have my own and I'm the one I have to live with. I'd rather avoid the controversy if possible, life is too short and sweet to get upset about something like politics or religion. Jimmy
Turborusty
I'm pretty certain P.R. doesn't want the Cool-Aid we've got to offer. They're probably laughing their tails off at us right now. We'll be poorer than them in no time. Turborusty
JAinsworth
Only us middle class people. The rich will get richer, the middle class will get poorer, and the lower/no income category will live off us all.Jimmy

spoolinturbo
will never happen. PR has all the benefits of america, and none of the bs. They know they have a good deal, and won't put an end to the party! Haha
JAinsworth
But would the decision be the made by the US or PR? If PR is told, be a state or be cut off, what do you think they would do?Jimmy

ucw458
Look at it this way, if PR became a state then all the roads and bridges and govt structures have to be brought up to federal standards. Not to mention all the infrastructure. It would cost billions to make PR a state if not more. It will never happen. PR will remain a territory. conquest707
theyve had this idea many times before, i think twice that i can remember in my lifetime. i think everytime they come to the conclusion that theres no way to astheticly fit 51 stars on the flag, why do you think they added hawaii and alaska in the same year? lol
indy_85stariones
Adding Puerto Rico as a state would add two more electorial votes to the next Presidential election. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-2499http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=hr111-1305 http://www.hr2499.org/The Puerto Rico Statehood Students Association (PRSSA), based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is an American non-profit student organization that promotes Statehood for Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States. BrazilBoy
The only reason the Dems want this is because they know they will lose their shorts come this November and in 2012..Also thats why they are po'ed at Arizona because they will lose all those "undocumented democrat" votes if you know what I mean... Shaggy_TSi
Heh... That will never happen, has been tried 3 times. last time a public vote was held for it was in the late 90's. Among other things there was the option for PR becoming a state. it always won "None of the above". Also we have a health care reform- loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong before i was even born- wich is awesome (so ive been told). We have taxes now, and its only 7%. and people complain, so i dont think theyll want more. anything else?
