  1. California wasn't the first state to ban guns on school campuses.
  2. The 6 bolt setup would be better. Have a stock trans rebuilt. I bet all your transmissions had input shaft play. Most people put $ into the motor then expect the 30 year old high mileage trans to hold.
  3. Nah 6 bolt stuff is junk. Send me all your 6 bolt parts and I'll make sure they are recycled properly. In all seriousness, 6 bold stuff is a bit stronger that 4 bolt. But they are not indestructible.
  4. Yeah Gary posted about 2 months ago that 2.6liter was closing up shop. It was supposed to go down at the end of August but Gary was busy with other things. Likely gone for good. This is why we say download all the manuals from starquestgarage to your computer because websites don't last forever.
  5. People like to make that comment alot. But they don't realize their rights are impacted as well. It's just a matter of time before gun laws in your state get stricter.
  6. Your eyes should be open already. You really think any mass shootings were carried out by CC permit holders??? In LA county you haven't been able to get a CC permit for almost two decades. That is unless you are ex cop or rich. The sheriff isn't signing off on any permits for regular people.
  7. The government has been slowly stripping away our rights for over a century. The public has let them get so powerful they can do whatever they want. The US supreme court has upheld that the constitution is the highest law in the land. No law is valid if it limits the constitution. The way the constitution and bill of rights are written is to protect your inalienable or god given human rights. The constitution doesn't grant rights, it's there to protect them. Your second amendment rights read, your right to bear arms shall not be infringed. Period. So almost all the gun laws are un-constitutional. But the government has gotten so big and powerful that fighting those gun laws is almost impossible. Not to mention all the gun hating people who will rally for limiting your right to bear arms. Some people use the argument that our fore fathers wrote the second amendment before machine guns etc therefore it doesn't cover modern weapons. That argument is total BS. Our fore fathers used weapons of the day to fight an oppressive government. They would not argue for a modern militia to use flintlocks to defend against modern weapons. That would be suicide.
  8. Just the last nail in the coffin. It's already nearly impossible to get a concealed carry permit in CA.
  9. You're always going to have some clutch material in the fluid. Putting a shift kit in gives you longer clutch life and snappier shifts. The factory setup is designed to give smooth shifts. To do that there is some overlap during gear changes. That is achieved by slipping the clutches during gear changes. A good shift kit will make it bang into the next gear without slipping.
  10. I don't think you would either. But if you had a FSM for the diesel trans you could get some specs for the springs and replace replace yours for whatever you could find similar to the diesel specs. But it may be tough to find the right springs and there's no guarantee it will work the way you want it to. The modulator adjustment may be a patch but it's the best option you have.
  11. The governor controls Max RPM shift points. The modulator controls cruising/engine load based shift points. Boost disables the modulator making the governor take over. Since his trans is from a gas motor the governor is set for too high of a RPM. Since he has a diesel with steady vacuum from the pump the modulator can't function the way it's supposed to. Turning the modulator adjustment screw to make it act the way he needs it too is his only option other than finding a diesel governor.
  12. 3.90 gears are streetable but you will loose some hwy mpg by running them. Try an antilag setup for autocross runs. Shouldn't hurt anything for short duration runs. Or keep your foot on the gas while using the brakes.
  13. It's been a few years since I've taken that plug out, but I remember the factory gasket being an o-ring. The black goop may have been a PO using RTV or something like that. Clean your drain plug and I bet you will find the o-ring groove.
  14. Smog technicians can "fudge" the test if they think they can get it to fail and send you to their shop for repairs. Test should be done 15 mph 1st gear, 25 mph 2nd gear. By doing the tests in 2nd and 3rd gear they load the engine below it's normal operating range. That can lead to higher #s on the test and a possible fail. A smog test guy tried to do that on my 91 toyota pickup. Barely passed when he did the test in 2nd and 3rd. But the previous years test done in 1st and 2nd was super clean. The guy tried to claim my cat was going bad and I needed a tune up. I had just done a tune up and my cat was new. Lesson here is watch the guy do the test. Don't sit in the waiting room.
  15. Wire bundle under the dash too close to the clutch pedal. Happened on mine. Wires were rubbing the clutch pedal but not shorting on it. Let the pedal out slowly and the lights were fine. Let the pedal out fast and it acted like the iron core of a transformer against the energized wires and popped the tail light fuse.
  16. $1k for a clean decent looking daily driver that runs good. Doesn't need to be fast, that's still a deal. Add stiffer suspension and a turbo later.
  17. Does the screw move the needle like a zero adjustment screw?
  18. So far I like windows 10. BUT, you have to go through and turn off all the spying crap that's built into it. Not only spying but microsoft can use your computer like a torrent machine to send updates to other computers using your processing power and your internet bandwidth. Thatnkfully there is an option to turn that off. This video goes over some of the privacy concerns and how to shut them down.
  19. Nope, it was the I.C.C.T. http://www.theicct.org/
  20. The block wont warp if left on a stand for a long time. I've left motors on a stand for more than 3 years without issues. I've also used stands like this one that bolt to the motor mounts. Great for long term storage without taking up too much space. http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/lsxlowtech/IMG_20150906_162900_1.jpg
  21. Depends on how long you plan to store it. WD 40 if only for a month in a dry place. WD40 evaporates so it's not a long term solution. When I store my engines long term I coat all the machined surfaces in grease or oil and shrink wrap it. Then a trash bag over that.
