Because I only rev it to 6500, and I don't want to always be checking them (I had solid lifters before). I do plan on taking road trips in this car. I would love to drive to PF or Vegas or whatever. I want the only problem to be not enough leg room. Plus they are quiet.

good reasoning. I just switched from hydra to mechanical, I don't mind the noise or adjustments i guess. My main problem was i continued to have hydraulic lifters get stuck. *shrug*

If for some reason I want to switch, I can. I am getting new shorter valves (late model) so I can actually switch. Before I had the long valves because they were all hyped up when I bought the head.

Be sure that you not only get the keepers but you need to replace the top retainers as well when converting to the shorter round keeper groove valve. I suggest you find a shop that does cold weld pinning and have that crack pinned. That will fill the void and keep it from spreading. Constant heat/ cold cycles will eventually enlarge the crack then hit water.

That's the current state of the engine as of 1/4/2010. Need to get me some -10 steel weld on male bungs for the oil pan, possibly add a couple more little baffles, then I will finish putting the short block together. Then I need the o-rings and to purchase the OS valves and have the head finished up. Then it's back in the car and get it all hooked up and tuned. It should all be done by the time spring arrives. Gotta put down the big numbers at the spring opener dyno day.

I don't know. I think you are on to something there. :D

Here's some more pics from today. I just got the heat working in the garage, so it's nice and toasty, but after a while it starts to burn the eyes, haha. Gotta take a break once in a while.

My engine harness for the intake side used to all come through here, now it's just the wideband, and soon the oil pressure sender and boost controller solenoid wires.

And here's the upper firewall. Much cleaner if you axe me.

This is familiar, a mess of wires in the passenger foot well. Taking the blower motor out is much easier the second time.

And my new oil pan mods using Derek's welder. Left one was my first, right was the second, the quality of the welds improved as time went on, haha.

And I don't know who this guy is, but I have a picture of him and his car!

damn it...every time i see a cool flatty, it makes me want one bad. All the ones up here are piles o' crap though.

Get a welder. Derek's car has some extremely serious rust issues, but with a free file cabinet and a welder, they are getting solved.

I don't know if I'd call them exotics, lol, but M3's and an AMG mercedes here or there. The problem was that I blew it up at the tuning session on e85, so I only had a week before I took it apart again. Not enough time to go hunting. It'll be done in another month at the most and then I'll get it tuned again. Should be anywhere from 420-450whp. The trans will just love life.

Yep real soon it will be time to find the weakest link in your drivetrain

If it breaks it needed replaced anyways ;)

I'm sure you said somewhere but what clutch are you using?

I think the stock transmission will be able to hold the power just fine. The number one cause of transmission failure in High Power setups is Shock. Abrupt clutch dumps and aggressive shifting will tear a transmission apart. If you give it some respect, it should last you.

Progress! I can't seem to use the full editor to change the update date in the thread title, but oh well. Maybe later.

I have done more than what is pictured, I have the flywheel and clutch all on as well as the exhaust manifold. It's pretty much ready to put in but I am not 100% sure if I want to build a breather can now or just get -10 caps for the oil pan returns that I welded in.

And here's the difference between an ACT HD street clutch disc and a Spec stage 3+ disc. I was surprised to find out today how much more area the spec has.

It's a hair shy of being installed. I have to button up a couple little things on the car before it goes in, but that should take all of five minutes.

Who's got two thumbs and is excited? this guy.
