I guess it's a good thing that you can do your own welding and fab work.

Yea, because to pay someone to do all that....the cost would be astronomical....and i wouldnt be able to afford it.

Im not that great of welder, but i am getting better. Fixing the rust on this car is time consuming and tedious....some days i dont want to do it...but it has to get done. The bright side is that im improving upon my skills.

I am really looking forward to getting the body done...because then the fun part begins!

1uzfe sale fell through :(

but i picked up a w58 supra trans for cheap today :)

came out of a 92 supra turbo with 80k miles. its the "later good trans" which is recognizable by the rusty colored steel sandwhich plates in the middle of the casing.

so i have been trying to track down a factory service manual for the ls400...since i need torque specs for the engine. I thought i was going to find it online in PDF easy.....wow i was wrong.

called lexus dealer today....turns out lexus never offered the FSM for sale....so any floating around for sale ebay etc....have been from lexus techs at some point....and they want ridiculous amounts of money for them!

it seems lexus dont want independent shops and DIY'ers working on their cars.

took the valve covers off the engine today...

something a bit odd....one side looks pristine while the other looks dark and discolored....

if both sides were dark, i'd say the oil wasnt changed regularly.......

I rekon the dark head got very hot at some point, and cooked the oil maybe?

thoughts?

That's really odd, it doesn't look sludged up and so the returns would be plugged up or it was starved of oil. Could there have been something in the engine bay over one side of the engine and not the other?
