Fuze
so i have been trying to track down a factory service manual for the ls400...since i need torque specs for the engine. I thought i was going to find it online in PDF easy.....wow i was wrong. called lexus dealer today....turns out lexus never offered the FSM for sale....so any floating around for sale ebay etc....have been from lexus techs at some point....and they want ridiculous amounts of money for them! it seems lexus dont want independent shops and DIY'ers working on their cars. Everything you will need as far as documentation and more on the 1UZ swap wiring, different versions, ECU's, is right here: oldschool.co.nz Nigel Wade's "How to wire up a 1UZ engine thread". This guy shows every detail and covers numerous versions and years, supposedly he's done dozens of these swaps. It's a bunch of how-to PDF's including the scanned complete manuals for all(?) LS400 years and also the SC400's. I saved everything he has there in anticipation of doing the same swap, although I'd be lucky to have it be half as clean as your is so far. Enjoy and keep the pics coming, I've been waiting for a build thread about this!
Mech
thanks for the link and compliment fuze. havent updated in awhile....trying to work on the car while working 6 days a week. finally! the car is resting on its mounts....ill do a bit more re-enforcing later...but should strong enough as engine will be stock mostly, no more than 300 HP......ill build it stronger later for when i do the crazy 700 HP build. probably bit more complicated than it should have been.....later i will do a setup like convette did...good thing is that doing it this way let me fine tune its position before committing final location... bought these for motor mounts...they are OEM land rover motor mounts http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt280/seaviewsuites/cbf3926e-c1e6-461c-b2d1-81d5952ae1f1.jpg cutting up subframe,.. http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt280/seaviewsuites/e26e524b-37e7-44fa-be4c-aa80daf396bc.jpg i removed the ends of the subframe all together and made new ones from plate.. http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt280/seaviewsuites/8931f5b7-3237-4bdf-a5ae-421a84fc409a.jpg trans mount...nothing is straight or even on this car! http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt280/seaviewsuites/91986beb-1ab7-40fe-92ae-8bd851c1c219.jpg trans mounted.. http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt280/seaviewsuites/4ce54541-e3fb-4fae-80dd-b25f9ca343c0.jpg for the drive shaft, i had a machine shop enlarge the u joint holes on the stariondriveshaft to match the supra slip yoke. this thinnedthe metal on the driveshaft u joint hole a couple MM....not really the right way to do it, but it was cheap and easy and should hold. Should the w58 trans work out fine, i will have a proper driveshaft built by a company... shaft turns very smoothly...no binding at all http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt280/seaviewsuites/8704f7ca-3f87-4e14-9a5e-a3e68df00065.jpg still need to tie up a few loose ends on everything yet....more pics to come Edited October 11, 2014 by Mech

Mech
thanks randy and import got my coil today,....i bought one as a test to see how it will work for my coil on plug (COP) setup. This will eliminate the need for plug wires, distributor caps, rotors etc.....it will make the engine look so much more cleaner. i found this topic on another forum..on page 5 he covers it.. http://www.streetracing.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=6500 basically he bought a coil but had to modify it slightly, but later says that he thinks another might fit perfect with no mods...and thats the one i bought and indeed it does... part number is.. 90919-02234 the ebay listing i bought it from.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-CAMRY-3-0-V6-IGNITION-COIL-PACK-90919-02234-1996-ON-BRAND-NEW-/160846593897?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2573343f69 bascially a toyota camry coil...and its good because it has a built in igniter (4 pin) http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt280/seaviewsuites/568f3b70-c042-40b8-ae03-be79a482fe46.jpg http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt280/seaviewsuites/e3e223a1-fcf0-4eac-8335-6059b13729c0.jpg
Mech
looks like i may have jumped the gun a bit here! looking back at his pictures, and also the pic in the ebay listing, i think they may have sent me the wrong coil....the shaft fits, but the mounting holes do not..... Mech
progress has been slow...but steady.... getting things back from the powder coaters....and crackin on with the 1uz http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt280/seaviewsuites/28322813-2c9b-4ce3-a9ee-b4c97c6fa8b6.jpg http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt280/seaviewsuites/eee05b6a-3d6d-4d02-bb61-beaccaa63e4b.jpg

randy
Looking at the powder coated parts and was gonna ask if ya was installing the bushings, but now i see the redbushings looks great.
Mech
Is there much aftermarket support for the 1UZ? in the UK, hardly any...dont know about the states...although i did buy my w58 adapter kit from america. new zealand seems to be big on the 1uz though... the engine will be pretty much stock, just intake and headers....running a megasquirt standalone
Fuze
http://s4.postimg.org/63mqt44al/20140919_145857.jpg Looking super TOUGH on the engine stand. I like how the 1UZ has headers from the factory too. They might not be as easy to make big power with as a toyota turbo six, but the cool factor and sound of it are huge. 300HP is a good number to play around and more than 90% of Starions will ever make. Keep updating, more on the motor tear down would be nice!
Mech
will document the engine teardown and build up very thoroughly fuze. today i was really thinking to myself that maybe i have bitten off more than i can chew....its not that i cant do it...its finding the time! but the support and interest i get from you guys makes me feel a lot better. Thanks... get er done!
