Well been a long 6 years and now she's up and running

So about 6 years ago I started really building her. Got derailed for almost 3 years along the way, and had a great deal of problems, issues, and redo's after picking the project back up. I am pleased to say she's up and running. Mostly sorted out, and just majorly needing a tune. So I wanted to just say THANKS. I know I can be a major pain, but I really do appreciate you guys, the site, and the cars.

So THANK YOU ALL I could never have done this without you.

I know I don't really share much but once I get a tune (conservative and drivable so I don't break transes left and right) I will have some results to share with you. As for right now she runs and idles just a bit rich, starts under varied temp conditons very easily, and the 62-1 sounds mean at idle :) . can't wait to spool her up after a few 100 miles.

Glad to hear! You are not too far from me, you still have my number?

Sure do. Once I got it moving and need to put some miles on for tuning I just might have to pay you a visit.... if for nothing else a random destination.

trailer it to a dyno and have it tuned. Don't risk doing a pull on a bad/base tune.

Yes most definalty..... It's been really hard to find both someone who has a steddy state dyno and someone willing to alos pro tune Megasquirt. I did just find one today Big 3 racing in Brunswick ohio... if anyone has any info on them...... They have like no reviews online and you typicaly see atleast one person bashing a tuning / speed shop online.

Talked with there tuner and he says I have to have it limp driveable before he will even waste his time putting it on the dyno. Has experience with Tuner studio and MS though so that's a plus.

Sounds like a prick if he wouldn't even help tune a base map from scratch. I can understand if he's busy, but a good tuner would work magic on a ready-to-run setup.

In my previous experince (never with turbo car, all big V8's) anyone who is good and especialy the elete tuners are the bigist A holes you will ever meet in your life. It's just something about that mindset lifestyle. They are all set in there ways, and usually like only one thing and want everyone to cookie cutter copy whats alreayd been done.

He's been the first one to say... yeah I'll tune a M/S though... so not much choice. well first to say yeah to M/S and has a stedy state dyno too.

Early Performance.

Those are the guys that tuned my car on TBI ms v3 they did an awesome job. Charged me $350 for a good 4 hours on the dyno and worked extremely hard and always informed what was going on and are very friendly.

Well worth it. I'll meet you there if you plan on going.

Be nice to meet a fellow starquest member.

Bit more distance then I'm really looking to travel. But that's for the heads up......

Also if your lights are really stuck.... have you tried to turn them down manually by hand? You take off the clicp and boot (kindof rectangualr) from below each light bucket, and then just spin the knob in them.

Check that rubber part on the back of the lights, both of mine were pinched and would not allow my lights down.

You are to kind. I think it looks like S and need to wireloom everything still. Just didn't want to be pulling loom back with all the issues I have had. And coil pack had to be moved off firewall to onto valve cover.... wish there was a better spot, but most open spots are on the hot side.

He wants to make sure there are no mechanical issues with the car. If there is he won't tune it. Make sure the car will not over heat and nothing is loose. If these cars have issues they will show their heads when the boost come in. I know...

Check your oil lines mine collasped and all my oil came out. The tuner was pissed LOL.

Same week turbo gasket blew. Motor was jumping like a kangaroo, pretty sure thats why the gasket blew. My bolts got loose at the turbo to manifold(motor rocking), turbo was held up my the exhaust almost.

Got that fixed and back on the street. The car got so aggressive he did not want to tune on the street anymore especially since my tires are a bit dry rotted.

His concern is the heat being general might damage the tire quickly causing a blowout.

At least you will start and finish on the dyno. My car got tuned in the real world so everything i just described happened on the street.

The most important thing you can do is to make sure you don't have mechanical issues. Let a tuner handle the tuning...

Your tuner should make sure you have rock solid idle. He will tune the car on vacum in all gears and when he is satisfied with all the parameters he will want to run some boost.

If he does not want to do the above he may be a full throttle mapper and your car will be so so on the street. Then you will start a thread saying how you slow roasted(meaning he almost had you) a car that has 100 less HP than you do LOL...Instead of saying you insinerated the offending car...

I am hoping all the mechanical stuff is now behind me. Have alreayd pushed a bolt though $1000 + worth of head.... (don't ask think it was sabatoge) Had the puking coolent from the hand made water neck on my magna issue, had the stearing box issue etc etc. So been though allot. I better not be colapsing any lines they are all brand new and high end braded lines. Tires and rims are brand new.... for the most part everything is brand new stuff on her.

As for the tuner. Rick he wants to do both. He wants to dial in using the load bearing function though the whole range, then go for boost, and tune the boost he called it, then he wants to go for WOT tuning. Said he would take about 3-4 hours and would charge around 300-350.

You can't blow any oil in the dyno room or incure a fine.

O and other then a bit rich still my idel is rock solid only verries .01 in my logs and is pulling a worrying amount of vac (atleast to me like 20#'s) 13.08-13.8 AF
