I am getting antsy, but I do have a lot of work yet. Gasoline has eaten the paint off the drivers side engine bay. That needs to be taken care of. Plus I have to change the gas tank.

I will polish the valve cover si the engine will look better.

I bought these injectors and sent them off to RC Engineering for cleaning.

The black injector was externally leaking and the green injector was good. Look at the flow numbers.

I got the pulleys and brackets for the engine sand blasted at a company called Blastco.

I painted and installed the parts onto the engine

I started to rebuild the distributor following PQ's instructions

http://starquest.i-x...der=asc&start=0

I tested the vacuum advance. It doesn't hold vacuum.

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Distributor%20rebuild/vacuumncontroltestedandleaking_zpsdbc8a178.jpg

I tested another vacuum advance I had on another motor. It held vacuum but for a very short time

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Distributor%20rebuild/vacuumcontrolbarelyholdingvacuum_zpsa2424719.jpg

Here is a video of the vacuum bleading off

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Distributor%20rebuild/th_vacuumcontrolbleedoff_zpsb71a8f52.jpg

The advance was sticking. I started to take the distributor apart.

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Distributor%20rebuild/driedupgreaseontheadvance2_zps55d996de.jpg

Distributor all apart. The advance section needs to have the stub filed so it can come apart to be greased.

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Distributor%20rebuild/distributorapart_zpsb5753bbf.jpg

All the parts are clean now. I am ordering a new seal for the shaft. I probably would have been ok with the original one.

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Distributor%20rebuild/distributorapartandclean_zpsfa2d29b7.jpg

Now I am waiting for the shaft seal.

Next I am onto rebuilding the throttle body.

Reassembly of the distributor. I replaced the shaft seal since I was already there. I also replaced the vacuum advance with one from RockAuto. When I took apart the advance I put it together wrong which caused the vacuum advance not to line up. Took a little bit to figure out. Good I took pictures.

This time I bought the parts from mitsparts.com. They are in NJ and are closer to me.

I started to rebuild the injection mixer.

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Injection%20Mixed%20Rebuild/Injectionmixerbeforerebuild_zps18a410a5.jpg

I wanted to replace the throttle shaft seals I got from Lower Shores. I stripped one of the butterfly screws. The drill just broke the metal. It didn't skip either. Just started to spin. From now on I will grind the stamping in the screw on the other side of the butterfly.

They make special Japanese screwdrivers "no joke" for those screws on the mixer housing.

I have a Kowa Seiki t-handle that works great. The t-handles are used for working on Japanese motorcycles.

The set I bought at a motorcycle dealership about 15 years ago. http://www.kowa-seik...p/english_site/

Since stripped the butterfly screw I switched to another injection mixer. I'll work on that later. Winter is coming and I am in a hurry to put the engine back in.

I replaced the throttle shaft seals that I got from Lower Shores.

Red Thread locked the butteryfly screws. I hope I don't regret that decision.

Someone was working on this injection mixer before. Those screws are not stock.

The regulator has some not stock washers on it. I wondered why.

Now I know why. The bolts are stripped. Anyway to save this regulator?

I tried to remove the steering box to paint the frame rail that has been eaten away by gasoline, but I don't have the MB991113 steering link removal tool. So I moved onto replacing the gas tank.

There was a lot of mud under the back of the car where the gas tank is. I got a lot of dirt in my eyes, however removal wasn't too bad.

Access plate in trunk

I was looking for the funnel that is used to fill up the rear washer fluid. Someone stated to stick your arm down the fender well to see if it is there. Take a look at this surprise!

Ya know Tom ... this is going to raise a lot of questions w/ your wife as to what exactly you've been doing out in the garage all this time. Wish I could have made it down today to help you out, that definitely would have been worth a good chuckle.

I don't know..naughty miss santa or some valentines outfit is what I think it was a part of. My wife was pretty skeeved out. So I put it back in the fender well!

Today I opened the gas tank...it is rusty inside. Now I already had a replacement tank so now I need the filler neck.

I tested the oil cooler by-pass valve in a 5 dollar toaster oven.

Ready for the test

By-pass valve open before the test

By-pass valve closed. Heated the oil filter bracket up to 250 degrees F for about 20 minutes. The valve moves to the closed position quite slowly.

I have been busy on a few things lately. The gas tank that was shipped to me is bent on the fuel neck side. I needed to get a body hammer and try to straighten it. Also I took out the steering box to paint under it. That was a real pain in the *** to get out.

I am hoping to have the engine installed and running by December. There is a lot of little things that need to be addressed before turning the key. I wasn't planning on rebuilding the steering box, but since it is out of the car now might as well. I also need to get an engine hoist since my neighbor sold his .

The tank I bought was damaged in shipping. The side that the filler neck connects to was bent. Being bent under the fuel opening made the repair a little challenging.

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Gas%20Tank/filltubeopening_zps9737e9b2.jpg

I purchased these auto body tools at a flea market. I never did sheet metal repair before.

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Gas%20Tank/autobodytools_zps663c68f6.jpg

I flattened the bend and tried to get the bracket as straight as I could. I don't know how to get the bend in the bracket correct. I used an adjustable wrench and bent the bracket into position. I had to have the lip of the tank a little lower so that the filler neck would align correctly.

Painted the top of the tank that took the abuse of the hammer.
