tsi_tom
I tried heat with the auto zone puller. It didn't work. However I only had propane to heat it. Also I soaked the threads for days with BG In-force, still it was being stubborn. Edited December 5, 2013 by tsi_tom
tsi_tom
Today I went to the garage to install the new Exedy clutch set that I got this week. As I went to clean up the flywheel I noticed heat stress cracks and purple coloring. Earlier I didn't look at the flywheel closely because the clutch friction material looked good. I almost reused the set I took off. So now I wonder if I need a new flywheel. I could not have come this far without the help of this site and http://starquest.i-x.net/. One piece of advice I heard from Stacey David of Gears was to do a little bit each day to the car. This I have tried to do. Take care, Tom

techboy
Tom you can have flywheels turned. I'm not sure where to have it done around here, but it can be done. I'd definitely have that done or get a new one. You got a bunch of heat cracks there as you noted. Luckily, when I did my build I had 2 spare flywheels laying around, b/c the one outta my car was cracked just like yours. tsi_tom
Hey techboy! Greg said he could do it but said sometimes the cracks don't come out so I got a used flywheel. I need to order the pins for the flywheel. It has just been too cold to go out into the garage.
techboy
Pins? You mean the alignment pins for the pressure plate? It didn't know you could get a flywheel without them. Or are you talking about different pins? EDIT: Let me know when you're ready to put that motor in. tsi_tom
These are the alignment pins. They can be removed. I'll let you know when I am ready to install the engine. This flywheel issue was a setback for me and now the weather is bad.

I want to pressure wash the engine bay but the problem is that I have no way to get the car back in the garage without calling 5 of my friends over and they live far away. techboy
Tom ... when the weather warms up and you want to pressure wash the engine bay let me know. I have 2 friends close by in Qtown. I'm sure between the 4 of us we could push it out and back in easily. I even have a pressure washer if you don't .... I actually pressure washed my bay before I painted it and almost decided not to paint it the pressure wash did such a nice job. I think I soaked it with Purple Power first and then hit it with the washer. I did end up painting it black anyway, but I almost didn't. tsi_tom
I took the engine mount brackets to be blasted at Blastco. They also epoxy primed and poly urethane painted them.
