I replaced the fuel hose between the fuel filler neck and the gas tank with the two inch inner diameter hose that 89PalermoSHP recommended in a search that I did.

Installed the replacement gas tank and reconnected the lines. That part of the fuel system is ready.

Onto the engine bay. I removed all the rust from the frame rail and primer it.

Then I painted it with the paintscratch.com Y59 yellow spray can.

While the steering box was out I decided to rebuild it. Getting the pitman arm was tough. I tried the autozone pitman arm puller that they loan out but it didn't work. Then I tried the pitman arm puller Kev used in his rebuild from Pepboys.

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Steering%20box/pitmanarmpullerOEM27170_zpscfc605bb.jpg

I tried hitting the bolt on the puller like it has been suggested but that didn't work for me. What worked for me was to hit the side of the pitman arm with a drift.

There was some damage done to the pitman arm by the puller slipping off

Bought an engine hoist from Pep Boys.

I am getting close to installing the engine after I rebuild the power steering box and reseal the power steering pump. I ordered a clutch from Clutch City Online. I got the Exedy stock clutch.

Do you think if you had applied a little heat, and then used the puller it would have came off a little easier?

Today I went to the garage to install the new Exedy clutch set that I got this week. As I went to clean up the flywheel I noticed heat stress cracks and purple coloring. Earlier I didn't look at the flywheel closely because the clutch friction material looked good. I almost reused the set I took off.

So now I wonder if I need a new flywheel.

Hi Leo,

Thanks for reply! I could not have come this far without the help of this site and http://starquest.i-x.net/.

One piece of advice I heard from Stacey David of Gears was to do a little bit each day to the car. This I have tried to do.

Take care,

Tom

Tom you can have flywheels turned. I'm not sure where to have it done around here, but it can be done. I'd definitely have that done or get a new one. You got a bunch of heat cracks there as you noted.

Luckily, when I did my build I had 2 spare flywheels laying around, b/c the one outta my car was cracked just like yours.

Pins? You mean the alignment pins for the pressure plate? It didn't know you could get a flywheel without them. Or are you talking about different pins?

EDIT: Let me know when you're ready to put that motor in. :)

with all the effort going into this, you should paint the whole engine bay. since the engine is out, no better time to do it than now.

I really want to but it is time to move things forward. I want to pressure wash the engine bay but the problem is that I have no way to get the car back in the garage without calling 5 of my friends over and they live far away.

GOOD JOB when itook mine mine apart I broke the pit man arm puller from autozone no charge good info on injectors im going to send 5 over there next week and now I can see why I need to rebuield diss

ucw458 would like the results of your test results from the injectors here: http://www.starquest...+injector +test

Tom ... when the weather warms up and you want to pressure wash the engine bay let me know. I have 2 friends close by in Qtown. I'm sure between the 4 of us we could push it out and back in easily. I even have a pressure washer if you don't ....

I actually pressure washed my bay before I painted it and almost decided not to paint it the pressure wash did such a nice job. I think I soaked it with Purple Power first and then hit it with the washer. I did end up painting it black anyway, but I almost didn't.

I took the engine mount brackets to be blasted at Blastco. They also epoxy primed and poly urethane painted them. I was going to get them powered coated, but decided to try what Blastco could do. The engine mounts are new.

Update on the motor. I got the valve cover polished and put in a thermo valve from Techboy.

Man that motor looks like a brand new unit, You did a great job on that build.

amazing. like off the assembly line.

great build I love the detail you put into it

Thanks guys. The thing that I don't like about the motor are the nuts and bolts. I am thinking about getting those yellow zinc plated.
