because for the amount of time and effort it would take to make dies and lay them out and make them out of a resiliant plastic/rubber, it's just not worth what people would want to pay?

Even if they were fiberglass, they would be cost prohibitive. I had thought about doing this, but by the time I made 4 molds and 4 jigs then added in the materials and labor for making them, they would end up being $500-600 a set, and nobody is gonna pay that. Well, one or two people might, but that would just be stupid to build a bunch of molds and jigs, only to sell two sets.

Wait for the OEM ones to come up for sale used and buy them- it will be cheaper.

If you made them for a wide body I hope they wouldn't be nearly as ugly as the OEM flaps. The way they attach sucks too and lets crap get behind them and chew the paint off. If they are torn they hold water. There were some flaps made like the flatty flaps that imo looked much better.

How can a set cost as much as a carbon fiber hood?

Correct em if Im wrong somewhere here... but

Cant you borrow someones mudflaps for free, make a vacuum mold, im sure you can find a place to do it for very cheap, use the vacuum mold to layer in fiber glass or carbon or w.e

ive seen how vacuum molds are made, it looks very simple and cheap. hell, you might even be able to make one using one of those food savers and a blowtorch.

lets say you spend $50 on a mold and then its just material costs and labor to make it. that, i have no idea how its done.

I think it's because the 1980's was 3 decades ago. Same reason we're not making new louvers. man learnrd to walk upright and invented window tint.
