  1. I don't believe this is a debate of quality. It certainly lacks some aspects of build or showmanship. The new Z06 is boosted and has 285's up front and 335's out back. Between simplicity, power and traction footprints......yeah, it's going to own.
  2. A Ferrari California is a cross of a 575 Marinello and a Aston Martin. Still don't see it much. Yet again Starions are 944's, or supras, or 300zx, or mustang 5.0's. It's just the times and styling. In person it is unmistakably a corvette.
  3. Looks really good man. Or in your words "so dope".
  4. I have a 2015 Z06 at work right now. These things are fantastic. The front lower air dam gets a different grill. Not sure if this is what they are sticking with, but guessing so. I really don't see where the Ferrari/Nissan/Mazda/viper look alike thing is coming from. It shares a lot of its previous charachteristics and styling. Just dialed up to be current for once. The vents and what not exist for function. It's like clothes and fashion. Levi's look like American eagle. A sports car shares cues for function that other......cars have.
  5. Where are you at? I'm in Waterford. There's a couple of us out here. The only time I ran at Milan I blew up a clutch and rolled across the line at 15.00 at something like 64 mph.
  6. Very cool. I like the homemade/cost savings kit you assembled.
  7. Yeah. Just going to re bend them around the top of the trans and bolt them to the firewall. Just being lazy. Also cut all the factory knuckle stops to enjoy my newly found few degrees.
  8. I love reading stuff like this. Makes me feel normal. My remote wire to the starter had a worn connector. Every time I started the car it would come off. So every time I came out to my car I just popped the hood and reconnected it. Friends all found it very funny. Did this for a few months. It was just a hillbilly anti theft device.
  9. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/DSCN0044.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/DSCN0051.jpg
  10. I just got done with this swap. It is fairly labor intensive. Will be posting photos soon. But for the time being, here is my mini write up. Parts "I" used 91 240sx rack 91 240sx crossmember All pieces attached from the junkyard I.E. Lines, tie rods, mounting rings and bushings, u-joint 2013 Cadillac ATS steering shaft and U-joint Tools "I" used Wrenches, ratchets and sockets of course Angle grinder/or cut off wheel MIG welder Engine hoist Jack and jack stands Having an impact makes things a lot easier. Also for those stubborn bolts some sort of heat source. Now this is just how I did it and I am sure others will criticize how I did it but do whatever is easiest for you. Step 1: Removed motor. Step 2: Removed underdash panel Step 3: Removed steering gearbox, center draglink, tie rods, idler arms, etc Step 4: Removed steering column Step 5: Unbolted LCA's and any in the way hardware (Tension rod on drivers side for easier de-installation and re-installation) Step 6: Removed coupler. Then I cut off the heim joint like piece that is on the original steering shaft. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/IMG_0603.png Step 7: Welded new steering shaft and u-joint onto the original steering column end Now for the chassis side Step 8: removed cross member Step 9: Cut off original mount and stop tabs from cross member Step 10: Without destroying them, cut off original mounting rings from the 240 cross member. First take measurements of how they are mounted to re produce on the SQ cross member. Take your time here. There is some very dense material at spots and you will need to cut it up to get to the welds that need to be cut. This is the more tedious part of the job and will eat up a cutting wheel or two. Step 11: Cut any necessary notches in the original rack to accept the new mounting rings and clear the nipples that accept the lines. Step 12: Mock everything and tac into place. If it all clears finish welds. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/IMG_0601.png http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/DSCN0040.jpg Now that your rack mounts are all welded up, finish bolting the rack into place. Remount the cross member. Re-install the steering column. This is way easier with a second set of hands to line up the u-joint to the splines. Re-install all suspension components. My U-joint has around 40* of angle and does not hang up at all. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/DSCN0039.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/DSCN0036.jpg I re used the original PS feed and return lines as they are the same size and pitch as the 240 ones. Although the 240 lines have a O-ring, I will have to wait and see how this turns out. I honestly just got done with this an hour or so ago. I am also doing a MPI swap and will not have the motor in anytime soon. Will give a final result when it is all up and running. I'm sure I missed some parts but you can always ask. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/IMG_0533.jpg Just a photo for comparison of size. Will have a finished shot soon.
  11. Someone really needs to cool it in the whole oil pan baffle thing. Really speak your you have done it and seen negative results. I have a starion and a CTS-V LS6 and neither have had any problems from 15 second power slides or 45 second high revving sliding runs. I also rally raced a H6 impreza for 2 minute runs sideways rev limiter the entire time. Now, this whole it doesn't take skill thing is a joke. Anyone can punch it leaving a light or stop sign and get a little squirrly. Coming through a corner at 40-80mph off and on throttle controlling the slide is incredibly more difficult than most can fathome. Try it, in any car. Film it. Post results. Who knows. Perhaps you could be surprised. Or surprise others.
  12. /\ I lol'd. I never understood why I do it either. Or drag racing for that matter........maybe because it's fun?
  13. I am at the 8 or 9 minute mark in the black CTS-V. Need to get my SQ back on the road.
  14. Love the V. Not my best driving. It got very difficult to handle when the rain began. Lots of weight looking for traction. We did do a few runs with 4 people in the car. Oh and the music was added to drown out the water hitting the camera noise.
  15. I also live in Waterford. About 30 min from Westland. I have family there and commute fairly often. Welcome to the mitten coldscrip.
  16. I have been incredible passive on this whole project. Suddenly got some ambition to get to work on it again. This is today's progress. It took some time to make the water neck fit properly. I also made all of it. Piece by piece and bent, cut, and welded every single side together. Kinda makes me wish I didn't procrastinate so much. On with the pics. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/IMG_1024.jpg Here it is in front of Dave's Magna mani (he was kind enough to let me borrow it for mocking up). http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/IMG_1025.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/IMG_1026.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/IMG_1028.jpg
  17. Back before I painted it. When it was all ratty and I actually drove the wheels off of it. Now it sits in the garage and I think about working on it. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/DSC02516.jpg And A few of my DD that I have fallen in total love with. Mine is the black one. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/MARCH_CTSV_PHOTOCHOOT_2012073.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/MARCH_CTSV_PHOTOCHOOT_2012134.jpg And the I love that I got 2 random people walking in the background that almost matched the cars. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/MARCH_CTSV_PHOTOCHOOT_2012145.jpg
  18. So this is not necessarily a SQ thing, but thought I would share a short product review. The miss purchased a "Turtle Wax headlamp Restoration Kit" for her Audi. It was on sale for a whopping $7. So if it doesn't turn out that great, oh well. It has been sitting around the house for a month or so. I just got a new car in absolute need of new headlamps or one of these kits. So I decided to snatch it up. First is the instructions. They are pretty straight forward. They describe decent techniques. If the user has and paint or wetsanding/buffing knowledge, big help. Following the instructions step by step with supplied components yields good results. At the end of the instructions it says you can use a buffing wheel with a foam pad. This makes the out come incredibly better. Did they turn out like brand new? No. Do they look fantastic from what they were. Absolutely! For $7 to restore them as apposed to $430 replace them both, I couldn't be happier. Now to the pics. First pic is before any restoration. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/0227022025.jpg Second pic is after only doing it by hand. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/0227022025a.jpg Third pic is after hitting it with the wheel and wiping it down with the "headlight sealer". http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/0227022047.jpg Took a whole 45 minutes and some elbow grease.
  19. Thanks guys. So after a while in it today found all the good and bad. Good. Power everywhere. All RPM's put it down very nicely. Not to mention power everything. SAT NAV. Comfy as all can be. Heated seats. Climate control. All that jazz. Steering is incredible. Maybe just from going from a steering box to rack and pinion. Super planted with nice feel to it. It's the right color. Handles well in the snow Bad. This may sound trivial, but it has no telescoping steering wheel. I am not tall tall, at 6'1". I need to be a little ways away from the pedals but want the wheel to come out for comfort. I solved this in the starion by getting a dished steering wheel. Don't really want to remove any airbags in the DD. There are a TON of buttons on the radio/nav. It gets a little annoying going through all the menus while trying to drive. I don't have the patience to stare at the radio instead of the bloody road. Axle wrap/wheel hop. It has IRS and soft bushings. It is a very common problem. After a few pulls in it I know when it is going to start although I would like to just blow up the tires. It is a $300 fix. Already ordered the necessary bushings. SAT NAV is a 2005 setup Can't really think of much more right now. I am 1000lbs heavier than you. Plus this thing hates going straight. I will probably take it to Clio if the Starion is being worked on. It LOVES to slide.
  20. Just got home. Love it. It does need some work. Rear diff mount is absolute garbage. The diffs themselves are not that great either although mine is silent. Already ordered new diff bushings. The miss loves it as well. Can't wait to take it to a drift event.........
  21. I have been itching for a C5 Z06 for a while now. I decided to go another route. I got the same motor, just in a different chassis. Went with a 2005 Cadillac CTS-V. Love the looks and performance of these and never realized what you could get one for. If anyone feels like doing a little photoshoping for me I would really love to see what it would look like with gold/bronze and gunmetal wheels. IMO it has similar lines of a Starquest. Just gobs of power all over the place. This is in no way replacing my Starion. Just a comftorable DD that is a GM (work friendly). Also the old lady won't be embarassed at family events with side exhaust anymore. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/IMG_0972.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t168/food28/IMG_0971.jpg
  22. It is a TD06 and the hole seems much larger than the stock unit. Just wondering what the appropriate size is for our oil pumps.
  23. I just had my 19c rebuilt and am inquiring as to who is running oil restrictors and what sizes. I came up with next to nothing in the search. I know this has been discussed. I just don't want to put this thing on until I know that it will not be overloaded with oil and blow out new seals.
