Currently at FOB Lindsey outside of Kandahar, and just wanted to get some photos up of the place for a few that have asked.

That is the room and my view from the doorway. Highest place in camp almost...

That is the joke of a internet service, however it is internet. I pay $90 for on month, and I get up to 256k down. Now let me put that in perspective. That is 5 time dial up speed. That is 1/40th of your standard cable internet connection.

Anyway, it isn't bad here, just keeping my head down. Kandahar Air Field, a NATO Base, has had some incoming, but nothing major. Generally at night you will see flares pop at KAF, which is 5 miles as the crow flies. That and hear the C5M's, Massive Plane, take off or the A-10 Warthogs...

sure does look alot better than mosul, iraq. you guys have it made in those spacious looking chu's with the big beds lol.

stay safe.

ohh, and out internet was 130 a month for 256kb hardwire. about a month before we left 03-2010...they put in wireless for 256 @ 90 a month. it sucked...when we didnt have a blackout, the internet only worked half the time anyways.

We are VERY lucky in that fact. These CHU's are only 9 months, and while they are Dry, they are a godsend.

So Matt went from eating dogs in S.Korea to playing in another sandbox..How long you stuck there now?

Until I want to leave. I am planning on 6 months and come home for Xmas, however it is financially advisable I stay. I miss my little dude though, he is 16 months already.

Very true point my friend.

I would really just like to knock out the whole owing someone money for the home I am living in thing...

However I am 99% sure that 6 months is the limit here.

I was on Lindsey for about 10 months before I quit the company I was working for and took another contract more in line with my specialties.

When I was there we used to call it the best kept secret in A-Stan,(until the 82d showed up and started destroying the place) away from the flag pole yet close enough to get whatever you needed at the PX on KAF.

Who are you working for?

I'm near Kabul now living on a piece of crude FOB, working twice the hours I was but making about 30K more then I was, so it's worth it....I guess.

My contract is up in Sept, probably gonna bail shorty after that.

Lindsey is STILL the best kept secret of Afghanistan. Honestly though you cannot ask for much more from this place.

DSCI Inc. I am sure you heard of them out here. Starting to take over everything.

To be perfectly honest, you would have to pay me on the better side 50k more to leave Lindsey, and I know I am paid well for my job right now.

Look me up on the global man, if you get board.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hey guys, wanted to give an update as a couple people asked why I looked like in my PPE aka TA-50. Also there isn't much going on here besides the day to day routine.

Nice Sunset right?

Same view, but a Grey Day. Visibility only a mile.

Nothing like Personal Protection Gear. Good 30lbs of stuff. Also on that stuff it makes for a good lifting device for a workout routine.

The fact I am in the PPE or the fact I look happy and giving you a thumbs up??

Take out your trash....and get a tan.

Fine, you don't have to be a mother hen...

never complain about being bore'd in a war zone , you don't want it to go the other way dude :)

Shouldn't be a problem. Long story short, this place isn't up there on the hit list...

Actually no, I haven't done that. But maybe if I throw on the gear. Pop in the disc. Then wait for incoming at KAF, I can simulate the environment.
