CaliConquestAlex
I did some brief internet research and noted that the hyundai 2.0 engine from the 90's uses the same thermostat and water neck gasket as the starquest. Has anyone tried running one of these before? TexasQuest
I wouldn't be surprised if it did fit. A lot of Hyundai stuff up until the mid 90's interchanged with Mitsu stuff.
importwarrior
Great find. seen one on here a long time ago but forgot about it. http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/FSS-85235.jpg
freebird
yes, that would be nice.Having the block off option or able to route the coolant from it.
importwarrior
the threaded top hole would have to be used for the Turbo return.
JohnnyWadd
the threaded top hole would have to be used for the Turbo return. Its actually the supply F.Y.I. Has been debated in another thread to be the return do to the fact it is so hot . It is actually so hot do to heat soak from the center section to the the metal lines. http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z388/starionkiller/cooling.jpg Edited June 1, 2015 by JohnnyWadd
CaliConquestAlex
Yes. I'll be using the port on top for the turbo feed. I will fogure out the size and report back. I'm going to run an AN adapter for it.

Guest
How useless or useful would it be to run a tiny cooler from that thermostat housing to the turbo coolant feed? Basically something to cool off a bit that hot coolant from the thermostat.
ucw458
Not really necessary. The turbo can run hotter than the coolant being fed into it.
JohnnyWadd
How useless or useful would it be to run a tiny cooler from that thermostat housing to the turbo coolant feed? Basically something to cool off a bit that hot coolant from the thermostat. It would be sweet to pull heat of the turbo if it was an OEM metal line with heat vents it would work. It would be cooling the turbo more than the incoming coolant. The problem is heat soak to the point that the coolant flow is not pulling the heat away. The stock metal line becomes searing hot even though it the incoming fluid the turbo has already cooked the heck out of it. Something like thishttp://img.tjskl.org.cn/nimg/80/65/7cdac528324ecb5a43cdf74c70d4-0x0-0/strong_style_color_b82220_finned_strong_tubes.jpg Maybe this...http://www.vegasrodparts.com/v/vspfiles/photos/r-5052x-or-spc-7367-2.jpg But then you are just making a heat sink out of the inlet side of the turbo and kinda bypassing the cooling system design. Replacing the banjos with AN adaptors and fittings will cure the heat soak issue and let the heat be carried away by the coolant as is was made to do. Not really necessary. The turbo can run hotter than the coolant being fed into it. Except for when the turbo preheats the incoming fluid in a foot long super heat soaked metal pipe. CaliConquestAlex
So i received the new water neck and it's a perfect match to the stock piece. It's about an inch shorter on the hose connection. CaliConquestAlex
It doesn't look like the port is tapered like an NPT fitting. I'll have to do some more research to determine the size and an fitting adapter
JohnnyWadd
Cool. Can you just drop a thread gauge in there?
importwarrior
that looks like a great option for us.Nice find great pics. A nice straight then a 90 -AN fitting and you can then position it any way you like. very nice.
CaliConquestAlex
Considering the stock water neck is no longer available, this is the only option left. These hyundai parts should be available for a long time because they fit a wide range of hyundai cars all the way up to 2000
Malykaii
Question, so the water necks came in two forms 88/89 and 87back. Which one are you comparing to? Cool research and thanks btw. Regarding heat soaked pipes. What about just running regular rubber heater hose all the way from the water neck to turbo. That's how I did it due to rusted pipe. Lastly, wouldn't running the heat sink cooler things be a good idea in the case of people like me who run fan shrouds? This way there's no heat soak as there's always air moving over it. Unless that's a no no since Its hot air off the radiator anyways. Can't win.
CaliConquestAlex
I installed the hyundai water neck and it's a perfect fit.
