Earl
Have we ever had any aftermarket for roller rockers besides the normal 1.6's? It'd be nice to see if we could get a hold of a good established company to make us some sets of Aluminum 1.6 rollers=P Has anyone though of this? And is there any rocker that is very similar to ours that would just need to be machined to work for our application? What do you guys think? Technology
It can't be too hard to get something made. The question is where do you put the adjuster if both ends have rollers? Since that would be best.
Earl
hmm...idk=) do you think it would be a good idea to try and get some made? Would you use them? I'll do some more research and see what I can come up with=)
Earl
would it make more sense to make a set right away trying to use a roller on each side, or to just take a normal 1.6 roller rocker, blueprints it, and have them machine it to those specs and make an aluminum set of those? I think those would be better and can then be improved later by adding the other roller and figuring out the adjuster problem. What you think Tech? Does anyone have any ideas to throw in? Something to improve the base design of the original roller rocker before just making it aluminum? I think these would work awesome=)
Komeuppance
Roller rockers need roller cams. The profile of the slipper cams is different than one of a roller cam. -Robert

That seems to be your emphasis, the material they are made of, not some new design feature. If you want to get the best rocker, make a roller on the cam surface, and a mechanical adjuster on the valve end that will accept one of the aftermarket swivel food adjusters, like those found on some Porsche motors. That's the thing I don't like about the OEM rollers, which use hydraulic adjusters. Mechanicals can withstand a more aggressive profile, taller lift, and more spring pressure. If you want to get them made, use a 7075 or other 7XXX series aluminum, that stuff is easy to machine, not too expensive or hard to source, and just as strong as mild steel without the added weight. I'd be a buyer for a roller tip, manual adjusted, swivel foot, billet rocker set.

Funky Phil
These what your talkin about chaddy poo??http://b2600turbo.com/elephant.htm I remembered Indiana sayin something about them a while back. But these are on the slippers. Couldnt you just weld up a hyd roller and tap it for these? Seems simple enough. It would seem hard to jack up. Chad
Yah, that's the one. I'd like to see one with it all engineered to be that way instead of a frankenstein job. I have put some thought into making an insert that fits a hydraulic boss, but has internal threads for a manual adjuster. Making the top of the rocker flat enough for the jam-nut while leaving enough material to keep it strong enough would make it a little more difficult to pull off though. The threaded insert woudl be easy to make...

Earl
that sounds like a great idea Chad=) and Andrew (Tech) informed me that they were already=P lol I didn't pay attention enough to notice. But I've heard that mechanical rockers need a lot more attention and can chew a cam up good=/ So let me be sure of what you're proposing. You would like the rockers to be the same as the 1.6 roller rockers, except you'd want the valve side to be machined to accomodate a solid adjuster/ elephant foot? doesn't seem like it would be too hard to do=)
Technology
But if you're doing custom rockers, why not have a roller tip for the valve? I heard that's the new hotness for rocker-actuated valves. I dunno.

Technology
No because that would change the distance from the pivot to the valve. Maybe a rolling tip on the adjustment screw. Technology
I can tell... -Robert You're all over the place! As for the cam, it would need to be redesigned to compliment a roller tip. Doing this would need a bunch of testing and development.
Chad
You'll never get a roller adjuster of that design that will withstand the vertical and side loads that it will see. Not in a package that small anyway. It will also be quite heavy. Ity's a good thought, but not practical. The eccentiric bolt is a good idea, but that changes the pivot center as it's adjusted, that would change the rocker ratio in addition to the lash. Another good thought that is not practical and likely heavy. Adjustable center might sound nice, but it woudl be hell keepig all 8 valves at the same lift if that were adjustable. The pivot ball end is pretty simple, light, and proven to hold up under extreme pressures.
Earl
That idea looks great Andrew, but I see where Chad is coming from with the longevity problems and added weight. What about a rolling tip? like a ball bearing in the tip of the adjuster? would that work perhaps?
