TexasQuest
I want to put hood pins on my quest since my hood latch cable broke awhile back and I've just been using a piece of wire hanging down to pull and open it (gay). I don't feel like fishing a new one thru sine I'm 99.9% positive I'm gonna have to remove the fender to do it. Is there any specific brands that are better than others or all they all the same? tsiconquest88
i had carbon fiber hood locks, they are nice and the type im talkin about are pretty good priced and they lock by a key, 2 different keys, one for one lock and the other for the other. They lay flat. Here is a link for them. BTW dont forget to lock them and drive away lol. I could post pics of what happened but its useless, the repair time and procedure for such a thng on these cars IS WAY tough if that hood flies up and tears the hinges area at the firewall. Total nightmare. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVERSAL-REAL-CARBON-FIBER-RACING-HOOD-LOCK-PIN-KEYS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem27ac557a22QQitemZ170395007522QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

TexasQuest
Yeah definately don't want the hood smashing the windshield! I'd rather have functionability over ricer crap anyday when it comes to safety with keeping your hood snug. I like those but I don't want carbon fiber. Never knew they made locking hood pins, thats cool. Edited October 19, 2009 by TexasQuest
ToeKnee805
You can go to the nearest autozone to you and buy the SPECTRE hoodpins, paint em to try to match your hood color, and voila theyre pretty much invisible, and they cost a grand total of 6.
tsiconquest88
long as u dont leave them unlocked like i did the one time after working on something your good to go lol.
BC_99
Get in touch with a performance parts store like Heintz performance, or BSR/hutch, or somewhere else that sells parts to Nascar teams. The spectre stuff is 1/2 pins and big and just plain silly looking. The stuff we use on race cars is 3/8 pins all stainless with lightweight stainless scuff plates about half the diameter of the spectre stuff. way nicer than the ricer autozone junk. ToeKnee805
Meh, Function > Form. As long as it does the job. I have em on my 3k and theyre not that bad.
Burton
Be carefull of the ones with the barrel locks like shown above... I had a set of those on my car a few years back, and one worked its way loose going down the track. Once the wind caught, it ripped the other one loose, smashed my hood, ruined my hinges and cowl, and even smashed the side of my car a little before the hood finaly broke free of the hinge and went flying. The hood didn't turn out so hot either. http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10087/DSCF0043~1.JPG http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10087/DSCF0045~2.JPG http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10087/DSCF0003~2.JPG http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10087/DSCF0002~1.JPG
vbrad511
Count this as a "NO" vote for hood pins. I've got damage similar to Burton's on mine because somebody (previous owner) was too cheap to buy a $20 hood cable. Just fix the cable, use the factory latch, and keep the hood clean and the cowl intact.
BC_99
Meh, Function > Form. As long as it does the job. I have em on my 3k and theyre not that bad. Im not talking about form over function. Im talking about a smaller STAINLESS STEEL pin that is the same as what is run on every Nascar Sprint cup car on a race track. They hold up well enough to go over 200mph on our race cars....and stand up well in crashes also, therefore they will hold up just fine on a SQ that will never even begin to see that kind of speed or vibration. Alan
Hood pins are up to you, but my cable snapped a few years ago and it did not involve fender removal for replacement.
Helterbot
I did the hood pin fix many years ago when my cable snapped, but I wish I'd just fixed it properly. Every idiot I line up with at a stop light thinks it's on when they see the hood pins. http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z126/helterbot/starion/P1010276.jpg
