Dave-O
The Syclone/Typhoon 4.3s are liquid-intercooled aren't they? There's a guy around the corner from me with a mint lightly-modded Syclone, he has a huge heat exchanger is in the bumper's lower opening and I couldn't help but wonder. Sounds like an awesome project, are you keeping the AWD? I never cared to pay attention to what transmission they used, but I'm assuming the 700R4 is a RWD trans? I never cared to pay attention to what transmission they used, but I'm assuming the 700R4 is a RWD trans? yes they have a liquid to air intercooler mounted @ the throttle body from the factory. i will be using a front mount air to air in my car. i only bought the motor/trans, the owner of the Syclone has a 6 liter with a 4l80e in the works and is looking to get 900hp... the truck comes with the 700r4 with transfer case for the AWD. all i need to make it RWD is a tail shaft.. LEPORE
well i set the motor in just to see what i will need to do for the oil pan and motor mounts. to my surprise it almost fit perfectly, the pan does hit the center link but not by much. http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii314/blepore1/89%20SyTy%20Conquest%20TSI/th_HPIM2997.jpg http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii314/blepore1/89%20SyTy%20Conquest%20TSI/th_HPIM2998.jpg http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii314/blepore1/89%20SyTy%20Conquest%20TSI/th_HPIM3000.jpg look how low the pan sits :eek1bluegreen: i'm going to swap out the pan with a 2wd pan, i was told it's about 3" shorter. my car is still at the stock hight. http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii314/blepore1/89%20SyTy%20Conquest%20TSI/th_HPIM3003.jpg
LEPORE
motor mounts line up exactly with where the stock mounts are. looks like i will be able to use the stock 4.3 mounts. http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii314/blepore1/89%20Conquest%20TSI/th_HPIM3005.jpg

Dave-O
Sorry to throw this thread off-center, but I was just thinking ... If the 4.3 fits so well in our cars, does that mean a 4G63 wideblock or G54B would just as easily fit in an older GM truck body like what the 4.3 came out of? I wouldn't mind having a 4G63-powered S10 to take to the drags, just to piss off the muscleheads. Back to your project, I can't wait to see the final installation and first burnout. LEPORE
thanks Joe... here are the motor mounts i going with, they are solid mounts for the 4.3. going to use a polly trans mount to help with vibration. http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/7962/hpim3061rv5.th.jpg http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/5883/hpim3060iu1.th.jpg i hope to get the motor and trans set in this week. speaking of the trans going to use the th400 with 3000 stall. cant use the 700r4 because it's AWD i thought i could just swap the tail shaft but that wont work. would have been nice to have the overdrive, oh well. i need to find someone to give me a hand on the wiring. me and electrical dont work well together...lol

LEPORE
I cant wait to see this thing man! Why not try and go with a manual tranny? just curious. well i already had the th400 and the 700r4 trans i got with the motor. trying to keep the cost down as much as posible. the th400 will have a full manual valve body, i could always swap to a manual trans later on. Technology
Why did you keep that huge oilpan sump area so low? I would have sectioned that by about 3" so you can actually go over bumps.
