Holy moly! I was told to remove my exhaust because the cat was probably clogged and omfg it made a huuuuge difference. Now on the lowest boost setting the car runs 20 psi. Time for a new exhaust system! This thing is scary to drive now! Edited by CaliConquestAlex

I was getting so much back pressure from the exhaust it was pushing open the wastegate. It is a 2.5" custom made exhaust, but has a catalytic converter because it was done in CA. I unbolted the exhaust so it's just the downpipe with no catalytic converter and took it for a spin and noticed a significant improvement in boost achieved and spool up time. I'm going to try to pound out the guts of the converter and bolt it back on to see if it's working better. If not, time for a new exhaust system Edited by CaliConquestAlex

Here are the guts from the convertor. All of the big grey chunks. These are just the big pieces that wouldn't get sucked up in the shopvac. I used the handle for my small jack to punch it out.

It made a significant difference from when it had the clogged cat to a gutted cat. Car definitely sounds better from the muffler too. Low end grunt improved and full turbo spool is about 400 rpm quicker. Edited by CaliConquestAlex

I put the rear interior in last night and got the black door panels on too. Everything needs a good steam cleaning and then some black dye, but it's better than nothing.

Ya, the black door panels are soooo much nicer than the tan cloth ones I had on there before. I still need to swap out the carpet but I've got some more tucking of wiring to do before I can do that. It's nice to have a car that doesn't look so much like a race car. It makes me feel better about parking it out in the open because it just looks like a normal 80's beater.

I figured I'd update this thread... After a couple months of enjoying the hell out of my car the engine suddenly started having excessive blow by and was puffing smoke heavily. I took the head off to reveal 2 cracks between the valves on cylinder 2 and 3. On great advice from other members I popped the pistons out to reveal broken ring landings on piston 1 and 3. See the pics of the damage below:

After much thought I decided to rebuild it stronger. The block was undamaged and the rod bearings still looked great so I purchased a set of standard sized wiseco forged pistons and arp rod bolts and the rebuild is coming along. See the pics below of tonight's progress:

I've built the replacement m28 njv cylinder head, which I won in the mesquite 3 raffle. I picked up a 292 camshaft, which I hope will help me get the most out of my big turbo and I am using stainless intake valves and stock stellite exhaust valves with Schneider 6610 valve springs. The rings were still perfect and in one piece, just the piston ring landings were damaged and didn't do any cylinder damage. Very lucky! I still need to scrape some gunk from the old head gasket off the deck and then the ajusa gasket and new head will go on. After a successful compression test the manifolds will go back on too. I can't wait to have this thing running again soon. With the slightly higher compression of the Wiseco's it should give me more power. I'll be sure to hit up insane speed for some dyno tuning asap. I've only driven my Conquest a half dozen times and can't stand the belts. These look great without looking rice, was there a post you referenced for this install?

I don't have a write-up, but the shoulder portion of the belts are bolted to the rear seat belt buckle mounts that are under the rear seat bottom. I just threaded the belt through the buckle hole in the seat bottom. The lap belt is bolted to the stock buckle location on the driver and passenger side. The belts were just some ebay specials and the mitsubishi pad was ordered on ebay a long time ago.
