Just want to say a big thanks to everyone who gave some input on sizes, got the wheels fitted yesterday, Ruff R277 19x8.5 front 19x9.5 rear, +20 offset f+r with 25mm spacer on the rear, didnt really want to get involved with arch work so kept the spacing to a minimum for the moment.

we all use bolt on spacers. I actually just shortened the studs on an extra set of front hubs yesterday to run 15mm spacers.

Some wheels will require this, as the front studs are LONG, others won't. Stock wheels, and my Sparcos don't clear the stock studs with just a 15mm spacer, so I cut 10mm off this set yesterday

New addition, some of you may know I've picked up an 85 flatty that needs work, but the first thing I bought for it were some wheels (couldn't stand the cowbells)

Rota SA Racing (Flaskbacks)

16x8 +10 offset all around (no spacers)

205/55r16 Winterforce tires (hehe)

I am really trying to wrap my head around the math but it isn't working out, heh.

I am wanting to get as close to flush as I can without a spacer, how wide a wheel and offset would I need to accomplish that? Moreso, is there a general rule of thumb for our cars when it comes to what fits and what will need a spacer ... or the other way, what is just going to be too wide?

No spacers.

Heaps of clearance on the inside of the rear wheels to strut. I reckon I could run 11" wide with a +5 offset would be just about perfect. But it may be a bit too wide compared to fronts.

Front is about as wide as I'd like to go without worrying about rubbing and ruining bodywork.

I use coil-over springs.
