leesfer
Three out of 6 gauges... these things are expensive! Busting my bank, going to have to save up for the other three Getting ready to drill, just waiting on a new bit coming in tomorrow. Then going to sand it all down and clean up the metal http://i.imgur.com/2W0MYNb.png http://i.imgur.com/mBk2HvU.png Edited December 27, 2014 by leesfer
vanillagorilla
Nice work. This may sound completely silly but are adding a cup holder anywhere? Just a thought. Gotta put the coffee somewhere.

Turbo Cary
Ha, nope, no cup holder, track car only But how will you stay hydrated? You can always screw a beer holder onto the side of your helmet like the beer hats.
leesfer
Will have secondary fuel cell dedicated to beer with direct line to my mouth
leesfer
Got three of the gauges in today, just testing Now waiting on some materials to do the walls. Going to try some padded headliner suede and see how it works Still need to sand and smooth the aluminum then cover it http://i.imgur.com/SgYdTm4.png http://i.imgur.com/koIavax.png

Turbo Cary
Thanks guy, for my first time working with aluminum sheet, I haven't done as poorly as I expected so far You never know what you can or cant do unless you try. leesfer
First side with the suede on it. Worked out better than I imagined. Need to go down and get more staples to do the other side tomorrow. Also waiting on a couple new drill bits to finish the holes in the aluminum so I can cover that, too http://i.imgur.com/PpU7QUU.png

leesfer
Messed up the suede on the right side, need to redo that... you can see it didn't wrap all the way around in some of the bend areas. But, this is what it looks like sitting in the car so far http://i.imgur.com/MSU8L3B.png
NikoFab
Man I'm totally digging it. I've been contemplating doing something similar with my center console (but only the portion under the dash) so I'm really enjoying seeing your work. May have some "live and learn" questions when the time comes!
needsq
Awesome work, I hope to do something like this to my car next.
randy
That would look great under the dash for the radio portion and the console area, I think a little paddingunder the suede would give it that nice and soft touch. I love everything your doing with the console.
leesfer
Thanks guys There is a 1/8 layer of foam beneath the suede to make it softer a bit
randy
Cool is that suede bought by the yard?
leesfer
Yeah, it's not real suede though, just a faux headliner material with a foam backing layer on it I've never worked with fabric material so I didn't want to spend $100+ on real suede and hate my life when I ruined it

averse
Great job so far. Speaking from personal experience, be somewhat careful with the suede to make sure you get it UV protected or, better yet, hopefully have covered parking where you park the car most of the time. Suede will fade from sunlight significantly and quickly (or it sure did with my first instrument cover mod).

This car is garage kept and only track driven so shouldn't be sitting out in the sun too much.. hopefully
