Jehu
MitsubishiParts.net shows that the idler arm they offer for 86's are for w/o intercooler. Fanta
From what I understand, no. All steering should be the same on the wide bodies - not too sure about the flatties.
ucw458
Yes idler arms from flatties are different than widebodies. All flatties including the 85.5 intercooled version use the same idler arm.
Threedoor
Flatty idler arm attaches with 2 bolts, the wide body with three. Keith
creakyjoints
The rebuild kits are listed differently but are supposed to be interchangeable.
Threedoor
The rebuild kit is a new bushing. Mine was completely gone when I purchased the car. I was all nervous about it, but it turned out to be one of the easiest repairs I have ever done Keith

Jehu
Do you have to press the bushings in/out?
Threedoor
Do you have to press the bushings in/out? My old bushing was mostly missing, I scrapped the remainder out with a screw driver. I can't remember if I smacked the new one with a rubber mallet or not, but I didn't need anything special to put it in. Keith
ucw458
They just slide in. No pressing needed.
Starfighterpilot
The rebuild kits are listed differently but are supposed to be interchangeable. Where are the rebuild kits listed? And are the idler arm bushings for the non inter cooled Starquests the same Id & od as the inter cooled ones? Thanks Ken
JohnnyWadd
Where are the rebuild kits listed? And are the idler arm bushings for the non inter cooled Starquests the same Id & od as the inter cooled ones? Thanks Ken I used a widebody kit on a flatty. Same size. Little difference in the upper part where the washer is. I see the kits on ebay. Ebay austalia has the noltec urethane ones too.
Caliber308
Where are the rebuild kits listed? And are the idler arm bushings for the non inter cooled Starquests the same Id & od as the inter cooled ones? Thanks Ken Idler Arm bushing kit: Moog Idler Arm Bushing Kit: K9100 (1983-1985 Mitsubishi Starion) $23.13 plus shipping. (You can find them cheaper by other suppliers if you do a search) I chose not to. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com Fit in my 1987 Intercooled Starion ESI-R Idler Arm . I feel the only difference between the 1983 to 1987 Idler Arms was the mounting (on the frame) of the Idler Arm itself, not the bushing size. 1988/89? I have no knowledge of those years, so I can't comment on whether or not the K9100 will work on those years. Maybe members with knowledge about 1988/89s who have replaced their Idler Arm bushings can comment about it.
