Guest
A friend of mine took his Cadillac CTS-V drift prepped car, out for a little fun. Well, he's snapped a few axles and got fed up and ordered some heavy duty axles. The axles worked great! In fact, they were so strong, the diffential grenaded and the axles were left intact! lol The left overs of the rear diffential. To solve this issue, they slapped in a Nissan 350Z rear end, its not aluminum. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk226/80sriceman/1338646390.jpg
Frenchi934
it seems odd to me that a 300 some odd hp car would come with a stronger differential than a 556 hp car...
yzrider
Screw the rear I wanna see pics of a cts-v that's set up four drifting!

nomofwd
A local friend here blew his rear end apart at the drag strip as well. I wasn't there but it was the first run if I recall. It was replaced with a newer. stronger one for the second generation V.
dmyers151
Weak diff's are a known issue with those cars, the XLR especially. I too, would like to see some pics of the rest of the car. Been considering stepping outta the SQ game lately, and into a 1st generation CTS-V.
jszucs
yeah arn't the GTO guys crying the same thing too? Typical car company, here you go but we cut corners here and here.

Them Z rear ends are hella strong, this one has endured hard drifting action in a twin turbo 350Z already with a locking LSD. Now its on the Cadillac, took some modification, welding mounting brackets, but its on there. I've got one picture of the Cadi laying around, see if I photobucket in a bit. Dave-O
Hahaha, and so many people thought I was crazy for choosing an IRS 8.8 over a CTS-V / GTO diff. In for pics of the car!
Guest
I only found one pic, I guess I deleted the rest. It's of it up on the lift with the rear diff dropped. It's sporting modified Tein suspension, off a 350Z, some wheel spacers, straight exhaust with some headers, additional calipers in the rear with a hydro drift brake lever. The engine is completely stock other than the headers and a fancy shmancy tripple plate clutch and super light weight flywheel. Heck, it even has working AC!! Plexi glass in the rear and real glass up front, gutted interior and race buckets up front with some 2012 race hareness seat belts, (never knew race seat belts have expiration dates). http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk226/80sriceman/Cars/1338961759.jpg Edited June 7, 2012 by louswheel01

Convette
Yeah first gen v diffs are weak, mainly bc of wheel hop. Fun cars though for sure especially for the $$ He should really shave those door moldings... lol

Guest
Yeah first gen v diffs are weak, mainly bc of wheel hop. Fun cars though for sure especially for the $$ He should really shave those door moldings... lol Super weak. They had 3 of those CTS-V's that they used for a tv show. During filming, mild stunt driving, they kept snapping axles. One after another. Then my friend prepped this one for drift, modified suspension, killer steer angle and left the drivetrain basically stock. He kept snapping axles at low speed drifts. So he ordered some custom heavy duty axles, paid a grip for them. He only got to make a few passes and the diff ate it. So as far as prepping it for drift, it really is not a whole lot of modifications that need to be done to these cars. They are really awesome cars, they have a ton of power and 6 speed! The car makes enough power that its not necessary to completely gut the car and rid it of all comfort features. He still has power windows up front , power mirrors, functioning AC, radio etc. Its just a nice platform to start off with and you can find them for as little as 15k dollars. NotStock88
pure hawtness - sounds childish and shallow but dang, that caddy is sweet! brings to mind the camaro slp zl575 supercharged camaros that have been in our shop in the last few months with supercharger grinding/grumbling. http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx254/notstock88/be75273b.jpg http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx254/notstock88/c6720455.jpg http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx254/notstock88/c43e644c.jpg http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx254/notstock88/1a7fa4e1.jpg Edited June 8, 2012 by NotStock88

Guest
A friend of mine took his 2012 (iirc) V Coupe to the track.. and didn't make 1 run It had a pully and a few other mods 800+whp. They were not meant to handle that much power, even in stock form if you punish them they will break. This was one of three CTS-V's used for a tv show. They went through axles left and right, they had tech's standing by and they even had to send some poor P.A's to the nearest wrecking yards to snag up a bunch of axles to finish filming. I remember the Mustang Cobras suffered of rear end problems as well, not as bad as these Cadi's though. My cousin had a '03 Cobra from spanking new, two months out of the dealer and he broke a rear end. Happened three times over then they "lemon lawd" the car. They gave him a new one. He didnt beat on that one.
1989STAR-ESIR
I love that CTS-V. That is a sweet looking ride. I think a 05-06 6.0 GTO with some mods would be a juicey ride. That is what I have my mind set on in the very near future. The ol SQ has been a fun project but it will have to wait to be a winter re-project. Maybe a 5.3L/SQ. Drwojo
Love the V. Not my best driving. It got very difficult to handle when the rain began. Lots of weight looking for traction. We did do a few runs with 4 people in the car. Oh and the music was added to drown out the water hitting the camera noise.
