D_Venable
I'm in Minnetonka, about 1/2 mile from Ridgedale Mall. If you have any clue where that is. Come August/September though, I'll be up in Rogers, as I bought a house up there.

D_Venable
Got more work done on the driver's side headlight. After grabbing a few measurements, I set up a jig on the bench to form the sheet aluminum I'm using to make the housings. Then got it all trimmed up. Then got the crossbar that will have spring loaded bolts for light adjustments just need a small tab on the bottom for the same, then I can "hang" the lights in there. But good news, these Hella 60mm projectors fit without the need for cutting or massaging the radiator support. Here's a crapload of pics. D_Venable
The headlight cover will be bolted on like shown, but I'm gonna weld those nuts onto those stock tabs so it's an easy affair in taking them off. For a lens, I have some small sections of LEXAN I'll be using, I'm considering welding some short sections of threaded rod to the back of the lid and bolting it on rather than just gluing them in place though. -Derek Edited May 29, 2013 by D_Venable
Convette
Doesn't look like you have much or any room to adjust downward if needed. Also keep in mind the heat that they put off, if they are too close they will warp your lens. HIDs aren't very hot, but you don't want that. This is why I placed mine so deep. The aluminum can't go straight in, it had to be at an downward slope towards the rear. There is a happy medium where they aren't too high, and still have some adjustment. It's minimal at best. I would have also flattened out the tabs on the headlight covers and made then slip over or on the outside of the aluminum. Keep in mind that they need to be sealed, (unless the projectors them selves are) so the huge gap will have to be siliconed. Last thing you want is moisture in them everyone it rains or after a car wash. Your on the right track though. I built about 3 before I got one good one. Keep it up man! D_Venable
Thanks for the input John, but these aren't HIDs, just standard 9005 bulbs. And Can Am runs these on a lot of their ATV's, wide open with almost no protection, mounted on Plastic, lol Yeah I've got the tub running down at an angle too, I noticed that in the pics of yours as well. I might flatten the bulge that the rad support has on this side to gain an extra 3/4" rearward to get more adjustment range as well. I need to get the 9005 pigtails, and fire up the low beam just to see where I'm at
Convette
Right on. I would just light them up for a while and see how much heat they put off. Being mounted on plastic and behind plastic are very different, especially being enclosed so air cant get to them to help cool. My tail lights were cleared then tinted red by the previous owner, and just from being lit for long periods of time it has warped my tail light lens, and thats just a little bulb. It drives me crazy everytime I look at it.
D_Venable
Quick test with the 15amp 13.8 volt power supply. After 5 minutes hottest temp I saw was just under 150°F, the actual polycarbonate sheet I'll be using as a lens should be just fine, and I plan to leave the back of the enclosure open, so that should help evactuate some of the heat -Derek

How thick is the Polycarb you plan to use for the lens? I'd be worried about the heat too.
D_Venable
Mark, I haven't cut any holes in the rad support for these, so I'm not to worried about engine heat. The polycarb is 1/8", I'm not worried about it, if it was plexi or acrylic, I would be though. The hottest spot I saw was at the focal point of the light (using an infrared temp checker, barely got to 200°) which with a projector your gonna get no matter what. Most spots I checked weren't even at 100°, it was only near the base of the bulb that I was get the 140-150° readings. I'm not worried about, but time will tell. D_Venable
Got rear mount tabs for the driver's side, now to make the front supporting mount. I'm leaning towards doing a couple small vertical pins, as it would give me a small amount of adjustability to get gaps right -Derek

importwarrior
cut the body mount posts flush or a tiny bit lower then the body and use button head screws.of course you will need to drill theend of the post for the screws but would make it nice and clean.
