It was previously secretive for national security use only but has now spread into the private sector. Only those which have been driven and at least had their license plates affixed with a DMV registry tag are able to be documented above as verifiable. From a data source that serves the automotive aftermarket parts industry. These numbers were ran sometime shortly after i bought my car this spring. That would definitely put an additional twist on things. There's got to be some old Japanese guy somehere in Japan that worked at the plant back in the day and has a pretty good idea of how that all went down.
