Dave-O
Yep. I've read through just about every wheel-fitment thread I could find on this site, and I recall specifically when Sully posted that 315s would not fit in Starion/Conquest fenderwells. Looks like I proved that wrong: http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/6251/image0494432098.jpg http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/5581/image0504460853.jpg http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/18/image0514486763.jpg http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/9248/image0524516403.jpg http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/5834/image0534548940.jpg Wheel is a 17x10.5" +27 SVT Cobra, tire is 315/35R-17 Sumitomo HTR-Z [also called the HT35Z], using a 1-1/4" [31mm?] adapter. These snaps are with the car on the ground unloaded, but there's just over a 1/4" of space between the tire shoulder and a stock unrolled rear arch when compressed. In the pics above you can see the clearance between the strut tube and perch, and the tire sidewall - I can fit my index finger between the two with little effort. I hung the fronts [275/40R-17 Nexen N3000s on a 17x9" +24] on the lugs to get an idea of the look: http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/3395/image0405024069.jpg But turned out I was this far off [the sidewall and tread block were rubbing the spring perch and strut casing]: http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/2669/image0415133671.jpg But since I was going to try and be HellaFlush, I ditched the 315s in favor of a 245/40 on the 10.5", and sold the 275/40s in favor of 225/45s on the 9" fronts. http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/7093/image0555290654.jpg http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/3116/image0565319730.jpg BIG size difference. I honestly feel like there's too-little tire on there now. I may swap the 315s back onto the rears, and buy a pair of matching Sumitomos in 275/40 flavor for the fronts. I've yet to install the 225/45s on the front with the adapter, though I plan to today. I'll be sure to post up my progress tonight.
Dave-O
Also - for those that originally wanted to know however long ago, here's an SHP 9" with a 215/45-16 Azenis RT-615: http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/8706/image0465680464.jpg http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/7940/image0475732294.jpg http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/7749/image0485754273.jpg WAY too much stretch, and WAY too little tire. It's great fitment for S13 Nissans though. http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/2083/image0455794618.jpg I've got too many tires to play with. Technology
You can't really get an idea of what "fits" with the car 4 feet in the air like that. You need about 10 inches less wheel gap.
Dave-O
There's more back there, you just can't see them. I've got probably 60 tires in there strewn about. Also working on the wheel gap issue. I compressed the suspension with a jack while the car was still in the air, and had little issue. logikfive
I still don't understand the reasoning behind stretching tires.. Looks horrendous and unsafe. Those 315's look great though! I assume you used a spacer for the fronts but it wasn't enough?

D_Venable
Have you thought about maybe a 255, or 265 tire up front?, that would more than likely clear the strut then
88TSI_Rob
It looks like the tire is outside the fenderwell so I'm not sure Sully was actually wrong. Also I wouldn't be so sure they won't rub with a 1/4" gap while the suspension is unloaded. You'd be surprised how much the suspension moves under different loads. Dave-O
The 1/4" gap is with the suspension compressed. I have a feeling these Sumitomos may not be as wide as indicated. So I traded a pair of my 1-1/4" spacers for 2" units out back. I'm thinking with a bit less fender gap this would look good. http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/8472/image0665057144.jpg http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/489/image0675093303.jpg http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/2221/image0685112843.jpg Sorry stretch-tire-haters, I've failed you. I do like how it looks, but I feel a 3/4" spacer up front with 275/40s, and a 1-1/4" spacer out back with 315/35s may be just the ticket for the car. I'll probably get sick of the stretch tire after a bit, anyway.
NudeLobster
yeah i vote some fatties for the fatty, stretch looks retarded, it looks like you don't know how to measure and read numbers
JustPaus_88TSi
Roll the fenders with a little bit of pull, and the additional camber from lowering will help it clear. I don't see what the issue is.
Komeuppance
If only those rims had lip... SOME lip... any lip!! nomad
FYI this what the same size/ offset wheels look like with 275/40/17 on the rear. The fronts are 245/45/17. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/IMG_1337-1.jpghttp://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/IMG_1335-1.jpghttp://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/IMG_1830.jpg
Komeuppance
If I had a dollar for every time someone told me that my car sits too high, I'd have a lower sitting car.If you'd like to donate $1 to the "Help nomad lower his car fund", PM me for paypal information. Dave-O
^ Agreed! These SVTs will probably be powder-coated white with the addition of new tires. Yes I know my car "needs more low", that's coming. Nomad, what size spacers are you running up front? I noticed in your post on the Wheel-Fitment Thread you said you have no spacer up front, but I see one in the pic above. Hopefully I can get mine to fit as nice as yours, once proper tire and low have been achieved. I'd already have new tires, but I spent all my play money on this beast: http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/7412/image0696785590.jpg Edited January 20, 2010 by Dave-O
nomad
Dave-O, the spacer I have on the front now is a cheap slip on about 7mm. Have had no issue with them yet, but I have already pruchased extended studs to install soon. I will be dropping the car in a couple of weeks (cosmos/mr2), so I may run into problems on the front once I'm low. Right now the stock perch is above the bead of the wheel. I'm not sure what will change w the cosmos. And I may have to roll th fenders. Oh, on the back is a 25mm bolt on adapter.
Elkidmino
I don't see what the issue is. Try turning and get back to us.
