Sounds like you had fun!
I also see oil cooler brackets. But no oil cooler.
Even with the mis-matched fog light surrounds, still a beautiful car ;)

Also 83 hood, 83 tails and .....83 turbo, har har har.

Intresting project you have there SQR, nice to see some one spend the cash to dyno and non IC car.

To my ignorant eye, it seems that intercooling has a greater affect on Hp than tq.

Wow, that is amazing.  I never imagined it would make that big of a difference and the power curve is completely different too.  Any info on the stock 88?  It seems like it was running rich, or some issue that made it weaker in the low end.

All stock ;less then 40k on it. Put the 3in on and dynoed the next week. Low end is bad as the turbo just can breath well.

I bought the car with nothing under the hood. Only the main harness, brakes and steering stuff. Just wanted to get it running. The engine itself is from an 88 that ran a couple of 13.5 with all the kdm bolt ons. I replaced the crank, one rod and piston, a aftermarket cam that was shedding it's lobes and gave every thing a through cleaning. So a budget spun bearing repair can be done with good results.

Yes i need put on a oil cooler, but the lack of one keeps me from flogging it.

The other logger box was not hooked up. It typically runs about 7 psi and tails off to 6.

Any chance that you might dyno the car step by step for every upgrade?  It would be a great example for a ballpark on what to expect from modifications and I am sure many people would be very interested.

Nice car SQR, Is this the same car you were drining in when you came to see my car? I didn't know it had no IC. I'm surprised its only getting between 124-130 HP on the dyno. My stock flatty (non-IC) was rated for 145 HP stock?

Yes, its the same one  was driving the last time i was over. The 145 is fly wheel hp. Wheel hp is always less do to friction losses in the trans,  drive shaft, differential and axles.

Comparison purposes, here we have a dyno from a stock non-intercooled flatty WITH THE EXCEPTION of an SL2 turbine wheel mounted in the 05 turbine housing.  It's the same 8 cm2 A/R but different "trim" because of the change in turbine wheel diameters.  The 05 wheel would be a 72 trim, the SL2 would be a 78 trim.  It's the same 12a compressor, same stock boost levels, head has a JVE, the guts have been knocked out of the downpipe cat, rest of the exhaust is stock.

I don't put this up to compare power numbers, this is admittedly low but likely more due to the inexperience of the dyno operator coupled with a Mustang dyno and auto tranny than anything else, but to compare torque curves.  The larger turbine wheel will flow more, create less of a bottle neck and ultimately allow more horsepower.  The smaller wheel will spin up the boost faster but then suffer from choking the overall flow.

So, peak torque at 3800 rpm for the SL2 wheel, peak torque at 2400 for the 05 wheel.  Boost threshold for the SL2 wheel is in the low 2000's (where it starts making positive pressure), max boost reached at 3800 and maintained to 5500 (7.3 psi).  I assume the 05 wheel reached max boost at 2400.  That's a big change, the SL2 turbine wheel is a good place to start making mods as you can actually turn up the boost without making it detonate.
