88351wtsi
I just got transmission rebuilt by a shop now no overdrive. It was out before but now it doesn't even try to go in. Voltage to relay but doesn't click or anything when pushing button, however light on dash will turn off/on. Part is discontinued please help. Btw it has been converted to megasquirt while transmission was being rebuilt.
scott87star
Did they re-connect the over drive solenoid?

Alan
The passing control relay has nothing to do with the transmission. Check that the wiring harness is hooked up on top of the bell housing next to the rear of the block as well. Remember that the OD operation is controlled by temp. If engine is cold it should not go into OD. The switch on the shifter only allows you to turn off and to engage if the temp requirement is meet. Check in forum and FAQ,s. ucw458
Did you ditch the factory temp gauge sender wiring? The 88-89 factory sender is not only for the gauge but also tells the auto AC and auto trans when the engine has warmed up.
88351wtsi
Temp gauge does work. Has a new 1 wire coolant temp sensor is there another one I need to test or replace that controls a/c and od? A/c compressor doesn't work either. 88351wtsi
Looks like I may have 3 sensors here. 1 for a/c, 1 for gauge, and 1 that controls o/d. Is there 1 of these 3 that controls both a/c and od
88351wtsi
Coolant sensors tested good. Relay stuck kept a/c from working. Now still need over drive

88351wtsi
Ok still needing help. Sensors tested good but to make sure I have installed new coolant sensors, new od relay, can hear solenoid click when I press button on shifter, but still don't have od since rebuild. Before rebuild it would go into od and then just slip and not pull now it doesn't even try to go in to od but first 3 gears seem fine? Is it something simple I keep over looking or could there be an issue with the transmission itself? Btw thanks for the link it is very helpful for lots of good info and advice not just on the od issue
ucw458
You could have too much slack in the OD band. Passenger side front of the trans there is a cover held on by 3 bolts. Under that cover is a screw and locknut. This is the OD band adjustment. Loosen the locknut then tighten the screw to 5-7 ft lbs. The back the screw out 2 turns and tighten the locknut. 88351wtsi
If I had too much slack wouldn't it still go in to od but feel like neutral?
ucw458
Yes. Think of the band like a clutch in a manual transmission. The band stops a drum from turning and that engages OD. If the band is too loose it can't stop the drum. It can feel like a slipping clutch or no engagement.

ucw458
Sounds like their problem. Warranty repair. The shop should be able to find parts.
