So I am looking at buying 1 of 2 cars need advice on which one?

both are 88 white conquests

one running with close to perfect red cloth interior needs very little but bone stock. No mods at all. less than 100,000 miles, sun roof, good air dam. 2 hrs away and can drive back.

the other is not running pretty decent red leather interior, head off engine, so not running, 115,000 miles, cracked air dam, no sunroof, 4 hours away must haul back, $2250 cheaper.

which ever way i go i really don't want a stock G54B again, so would want to try to modify if anything is still available. Still wanting to use the G54B base but turbo mods and maybe multiport if i can still get one.

So what would it cost to rebuild and mod and is there a builder anywhere close to TN/KY that can still work on these?

Please help.

A running car is always better than a non-runner. You have no idea why a non-runner is a non-runner, the owner will tell you anything to get rid of it and it's likely multiple issues beyond just not having a head bolted down.

I'm with Scott on this one. If you can affort the nicer running car I'd suggest going with that one. The amount of money, time, and effort you may put into the non-running car will probably exceed the savings in the long run.

Of course this is assuming that the running car is running well and isn't on its last legs.

easier to start with a runner. and probly cheaper in the long run. you can take it for a test drive at least and get a feel for what needs to be done. i started out with a cheap non runner and by now i pretty much have replaced everything on it, which is still ok with me because i bought it as a project to learn about cars, and i know what has been done to it. but at the end of the day its still not worth as much as what i have into it.

Thanks everyone!!! That was what my gut was telling me but just needed a few "second" opinions. Going to test drive it after work. Hopefully it will be close to what is being advertised............ but not counting on that either. lol So if not a rust bucket plan on bringing it home. Will try to keep you guys posted. Mods will definitly be in the near future if it's a candidate.

ok so i drove the 89 and a 87 ended up buying the non running 88 that was only 2 hrs away, against reason and thinking. I got lucky though. Car sat for around 6 years. Brought it home dropped the tank, replaced pump, filter, cleaned tank for hours and red coated it. Put it all back together and drove to the gas station to fill it up. Injectors need cleaning but idles good and runs decent. Sea Foam in oil and fuel for treatment hopefully that will help. I have already had 3 people try to buy the car, 2 before I even unloaded it off trailer one for $2000 more than I paid for it even not running.

If I was worried about the money I wouldn't have bought one to start with. She is NOT for sale. Our cars are really only for a certain "click" or group of people---- enthusiasts------ Very few people know anything about them, parts are hard if not impossible to find, most even have to order tune-up parts because no one keeps parts in stock. Money cars, right now fox body mustangs, and 70-85 camaros seem to be quick flips and parts are easy to find for these. But back in high school my 88 Conquest would run off and leave both. Sure there are faster cars, more dependable too but the memories I have are worth more than a few thousand dollars. I have the only 2 in town and when I drive through town people love it. People compliment and ask all sorts of questions. Most don't know anything about them but really take interests. Their was a fiji blue one in this town back in the early 90's that people still remember because they tell me about it and how fast it was then. Good to know that "our" cars make such a lasting impression on John Q. Public. Shame there aren't more out there to piss off the Honda crowd.

It is true, if you name the car to someone they have no idea, but if they see it they remember it every time. My son told someone we had a Conquest ant the guy said "ah, the mini van". ah no.

I had mine sold for more than i paid but backed out.
