Looking for 1 or the other

My brother in law stopped in at my dads while I was there last weekend, said their Explorer had had a couple hicups when starting. Seems every great once in a while when he or my sister hit the key the starter cranks unusually slow. They let off, hit it again, and it cranks fine. I'm thinking it's got a failing contact in either the starter or the solenoid. I'd like to get it taken care of before it fails completely and leaves them stranded with the kids. Thoughts?

So one a guy on here has an 88 quest turbo-swaped truck. Its been sitting for a few months due to engine issues.
