  4. obie found a cruise control vacuum line off. May want to check out this thread: http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=94461
  5. After doing the manual shift check and if it goes past 3K, retest for a vacuum leak. Unscrew the vacuum diaphram leaving the hose still attached. Connect a vacuum pump to the hose and verify that it is holding a vacuum. If it holds, screw the diaphragm back in, reconnect the hardline, and verify that it is still holding vacuum by connecting the vacuum pump to the hardline at the intake manifold. Vacuum pumps are inexpensive and available at Harbor Freight. If it holds vacuum, as JustPaus said, you may have to check the valve body. Do you have a copy of the Service Manual and checked the troubleshooting checklist?

  8. Fanta, The 3 career fields you listed may require a high level of security clearance....which may take some time especially for a non citizen. It took 8 years for my clearance check and I am a citizen. However, you can be granted an "interim clearance". Definately a question you need to ask when you talk with the recruiter. A recruiter is a salesperson so expect their best sales pitch. And yes, they will camp out on your doorstep. If you want a technical skill, one that you can use when you leave the military, I would recommend the Air Force or Navy. Discipline.....Marine Corps. College fund .....Army. I spent 24 years in the Army and served with a lot fine young people who were searching for direction in their lives. My soldiers gave me a plaque with the following inscription when I retired: I was that which others did not want to be. I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do. I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, And reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness should I fail. I have seen the face of terror, felt the stinging cold of fear, And enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment's love. I have cried, pained, and hoped... but most of all, I have lived times others would say were best forgotten. At least someday I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was... A Soldier! If you want to talk, let me know and I'll PM you my phone number.
  9. As Mike said, check it at the intake manifold but don't forget the other end. That same hard line connects to the vacuum diaphragm assembly, MD610613, on the driver's side of the tranny via a rubber hose, MD713852. Check that hose for a leak. Last time I checked, that hose was no longer available from Mitsu. It's a pre-formed hose with a 90 degree bend. If it is bad, you should be able to fabricate one. Disconnect the hardline from the hose and unscrew the vacuum diaphragm and hose as an assembly. Do not lose the small metal rod inside the vacuum diaphragm. You can now take the diaphragm and hose to the parts store to match up the hose for the correct diameter.
  10. You got me there, I would say 389. Don't know how much HP it was putting out, but in the mid 60's, the 389 w/a stock 4 barrel was around 335HP. That was also around the same time period they ran a Hurst dual gate shifter wasn't it?
  11. Ken, That wouldn't be a 3 duece set-up would it?
  12. 5th pic down is an example of the SHP door jamb decal. http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=92957

  15. Cost is determined by what needs to be done or how much modifications you wish to make. Have you read DAD's topic on a basic rebuild? It's pinned to the top of this forum. http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83410
  16. Also check out this post for putting in a new one. http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=93380

  18. Also, take a look at the 4 different torque converters used with this transmission series. If I'm reading the chart correctly, it appears that the 91 thru 97 Miata series trans had a larger diameter pilot. Don't know how this would affect compatability with a starquests or what other modifications would be required. http://www.transtar1.com/catalogsPartNumberingGuide.asp 2008 Torque Converter catalog, page 115.
  19. If you have your key code, most locksmiths can cut a key. I believe the keycode is on the passenger door cylinder lock. If your "lost" key unlocked all of the locks, this is the code you want to record for future reference. You'll have to remove the door upholstery to get to the lock cylinder. Once you have this code, go to a reputable locksmith. They will be able to take out a set of blanks to determine which one fits the car and then cut a key. According to my owner's manual, this code was also stamped on the side of each key, (at least on the 87 Conquest models). The manual states: "You should record this number so that in the event of loss you can order duplicate keys from your dealer or a reputable locksmith." My original key was pretty worn but the code stamped into the side was still legible, (1 alphabetical letter followed by 4 numbers). I had 2 Mitsu key blanks and gave the locksmith the code, she cut one, it worked, so I had her cut the second one. The OEM part number for key blank: MB184084. Tim, aka Ulrichwolf, was selling them a while back. Don't know if Tim has any left or whether he bought and sold all the existing inventory. If you want an OEM key, try Rockville Mitsu. I have had a lot of good luck getting OEM parts from them.
